[Raspy voice] Record 1235: Beau Broussard. The end.
Oz was, in fact, not on his best behavior. For once, though, I'm not inclined to hold it against him.The thing stalking the kid wasn't your run-of-the-mill restless spirit looking for closure or revenge. It was a wayward-something old enough to have forgotten what being human even felt like, and cruel enough not to miss it. Demonic entities don't negotiate. They don't haunt you because they have unfinished business. They haunt you because making you suffer is the point. Frankly, the fact that Beau walked away alive borders on the miraculous.
He's shaken. Of course he is. I'd be more worried if he weren't. Give him a few nights without sleep, a couple of panic attacks every time the lights flicker, and maybe, maybe he'll start convincing himself it's over. As for Oz... well, he managed to keep his body count at zero, which is a refreshing change of pace.
The cleanup should be manageable. A few altered memories, a handful of fabricated police reports, and enough bureaucratic sleight of hand to satisfy anyone who starts asking inconvenient questions. Compared to our usual disasters, I'd call that a remarkably good day.
More importantly, it's one less death for the Agency to carry. God knows the ledger is already heavy enough.
