summary: where tsukishima is scared to let you go

“what did you say?”

“you heard me well.”

you couldn’t believe what you just heard. no, you were sure it was just your illusion. he wouldn’t do this to you. your tsukishima would not even say these words. the one who said that would not even hurt a strand of your hair, the one you knew would not do so. 

you stood your ground in front of him, the rain starting to edge your boots. you never broke your eye contact with him- disbelief permanent in your eyes. sure, you had your doubts about him ever liking you, for he refused to reveal any edge of jealousy whenever you were surrounded- it was almost one-sided, you felt that it was. 

yet, now as he divulged every shred of his jealousy, you did not expect this. you did not expect him to insult you with every possible synonyms of the same word you had always hated. the pitter-patter of the rain echoed in the open field you stood with him, clouding your mind with every right sense you could have as anger took over every aspect of your body.

“who are you.”

that was it. the three words that too him to slam back into reality- making him notice the tears lining the rim of your eyes, the tears he had caused. the slight shiver of your bottom lips as you held back every drop of dejection, and he knew he had messed up. so. fricking. bad. he knew how you were trying to hold back every ounce of anger that had build up within you- your clenched fists were a dead giveaway to him. he knew so well- he would be a fool if he did not- that he were to lose you at any given moment. 

the thought itself buried him in the graves of misery, he could not let you go, no he definitely had no courage to do so. he couldn’t let go of the joy he felt when he saw your smile, he couldn’t let go of the butterflies he felt when he held your hand, he couldn’t let go of how he had memorised every aspect of your likes and dislikes, your joy and sadness- it would be the death of him.

“(y/n)...i- i have no idea why i said that. i- you are not any of what i had just said, no, you are far superior from any those. i’m really sorry (y/n)... i really am.”

the sudden warmth that enveloped your body had taken you by surprise. your tears finally flowing out, building a puddle on the shirt of his. he held you in his arms, as he buried you in his chest, hoping for you to hear the rushes of his heart that you had always caused. it broke him to hear your wails, as you sniffled again after momentary pauses, as he held you tighter after every drop of tear. he was such a fool to have even caused this, he was such a fool to let his jealousy take over every speck of common sense he had. he was such a fool for you, and nothing could scare him more than... letting you go.
