Marriagetoxin Episode 7 Review - A Wedding To Remember
This was a nice episode! It really shows how much of a great guy Gero is with how he cherishes his friendships. You know you care about someone so much that you go on a solo mission to stop any obstructions towards his wedding. That’s a true friend right there. Also, it does make me wonder how Gero’s wedding will be like when he finally finds the one for him.
Toshiki and Anna’s wedding is honestly really fantastical! It’s like a bug forest fairy tale in a sense! I love that they’re very accommodating; they allow Kinosaki to attend despite having no relations other than being mutual friends with Gero and they make it so that kids can enjoy the wedding with the bugs they can ride on! You can tell how much of a gentleman Toshiki, the Bug Master, he is with these details alone!
It’s also nice to see how Gero and Toshiki became friends in the past. They have an age gap, but Gero treated him normally despite Toshiki being from a branch family in the Poison clan. Gero was also colder when he was a child, so it feels a little nice to see how much he changed as an adult. Still, the lore drop about the Five Great Families does foreshadow that Gero might have to butt heads with some of them one day, especially if there is a potential marriage candidate either in one of the main families or their branches.
There’s a few new characters introduced. First is Tsunagi, the Needle Master, who was mentioned back in Episode 1. He shows up with his three sons who look very similar to him except that they have different faces. Also, I had a feeling the needles he threw at Gero were acupuncture needles and I was correct. He seems to be an acupuncturist as a day job. Next is the guy trying to obstruct Toshiki’s wedding, I think his name was Ryoma from the credits. He’s a bomb user who has it out for Toshiki because he prevented him from dying back when he was really suicidal and wanted to die out flashily. Apparently, he became what he is due to a Puppet Master, so I’m guessing that he’ll be a threat in the future.
The fight between Gero and Ryoma was cool because Gero shows off what he can do without the need for poison. Instead, he borrows one of Toshiki’s bugs, Julia Jr., and uses its abilities to defeat him. It does showcase that ability borrowing is capable and that it could happen in a future plot line. Wait, is Julia Jr. a robot spider or it is an actual one?
I liked seeing Kinosaki befriending Tsunagi and Toshiki. The two trust him to find someone perfect for Gero and in turn, Kinosaki learns about the positive influences Gero had in his life. I could see this as foreshadowing that Kinosaki might be end game, but that’s just the shipper in me talking.
Also, I realized that the narrator and Gero’s teacher is voiced by Ryotaro Okiayu, meaning that he’s definitely someone of importance later on. The man of the hour Toshiki is voiced by Isamu Yusen who voiced Matsukawa in Haikyuu and Renault in Unicorn Overlord. Toshiki’s father is voiced by Hisao Egawa who voiced Flaremon in Digimon Beatbreak and Ichigo from Oshi no Ko. The other characters in this episode are mostly voiced by lesser known voice actors, hence why I won’t be mentioning them for this review.
At first, I thought the man with the white tips in his hair was also going to be a marriage option, giving Gero a diverse pool of candidates, but I was told that he’s not. Honestly, a shame—it’d be nice to have some diversity like men who are open to the Japanese custom of homosexual marriage, foreign assassins and specialists (if there are any), and people from around the world in general. I am curious about what his deal is, so I’m going to have to find out next week, I guess. Let me know your thoughts on this episode.
