Tsuneo looks at his peers… Jinpachi… Hanji… the others all casting their votes… and finally, his sister. It seems pretty much everyone’s agreed on their solution to this dilemma…
And it terrified Tsuneo.
This was an injustice… this all was an injustice. No matter the truth, he wants to help someone… no matter the truth, none of this is fair. The longer this game goes on the more desperate people become, the more it takes from you.
And Tsuneo is faced with his greatest fear…
Looking into a future that is so utterly uncertain.
”Mika… even if this is just in case of the worst… I hate hearing you talk like this is already the end.”
His hands tremble… and he breathes in a shaky breath.
”I feel like no matter how much I’ve worked, or how good I was at my old job, that I always failed at amounting to anything here. I caused endless trouble… I failed to come up with any proper solutions to things I normally could fix… I betrayed someone, and tried to push people away. And even so, I’ve had to rely on everyone around me… I feel like I’ve never learned how to stand on my own two feet because everyone was always knocking me down off of them.”
His gaze jumps between everyone, not addressing any one person in particular, but the group as a whole.
”Still… even after all that, I’ve tried… to be better. I’ve tried not to take my failures as personally. I’m trying to find out who I am and who I want to be. Mistakes don’t have to mean the end.”
He rubs his arm… nervously finding some way to occupy his hands.
”If this end up being my end though… I want to apologize from the bottom of my heart. For everything I’ve done wrong… And I want to say that for as scared I am of dying here, I’m scared of losing any more of you! It’s selfish… right? But were all selfish. That’s why we’re at this point, aren’t we…?”
They're all selfish animals… backed into a corner and trembling. Clinging to each other for warmth, and looking for some kind of connection.
”And if it is me, Mika… it isn’t your fault, okay? Because it’s not your job to protect me anymore. We’re equals. I’ll cry for you just as much…”
He takes a sharp breath… finally making his decision, and he reaches to cast his vote…
Theres nothing he fears more than an uncertain future. Jobs, friendships, love…. Death. A man who’s spent his life planning and calculating every move, who’s studies all angles before taking a step, moves forward…
…into the unknown.

As Mikazuki addresses him, it seems to draw him out of his thoughts. His expression just barely gives away the worry he feels...
"That's true... you're right. But..."
Choosing wrong could end up costing someone their life. However...
However!...
"Why... why does everything always have to be so complicated..."
His hands curl into tight fists at his sides. For someone who was so used to having everything under control, in this place, it's always slipping away. He's just as powerless as anyone else here. Just as weak and vulnerable... everything he fears. But it's nothing compared to the cruelty of this place. This world.
After all...
Whatever he chooses, someone dies.... don't they?
He exhales... his shoulders sag, and his hands loosen their grip. They fall limp as his sides, and he takes another deep breath.
"Mikazuki is right. We can't just look at this at face value, we have to examine the facts. I understand what's at risk...
As much as I don't want to risk an innocent life, an accident doesn't mean guilt either. There's no good answer here, no matter what happens, we're going to feel like monsters for it, don't you think? Let's at least do out best to be certain in out answers."

Tsuneo stares at what unfolds before him...
A pained confession... and professions of love... tears, and regrets all spewing over. Emotions quickly erupting. And over what...?
A bid for survival? Just some desperate attempt to make a life better?
He'd be more bitter... at the painful irony of it all, having been condemned by the same person, the same people, who right now in front of him shed tears over his same crime... just with more definitive results. He would be more spurned, more furious at the change in treatment, the hypocrisy...
If it all weren't so sad...
And the painful reminder that if his own plans had gone through... what tears would be shed for him? How close he came to being in this same predicament...
"Hisa..."
He'd wished he'd gotten the chance to speak to him... to try to make amends. Maybe there could have been an evening of desperation, of confess plans, and Tsuneo could have said "I understand." and talked him down. "You don't have to make the same mistake."
And Rowan would still be here.
"......."
What can he say? Would words by him even be welcome? Are people expecting some kind of 'I told you so' from Tsuneo? He'd never be so harsh...
But his eyes show anguish all the same... he understands Hisa completely.

"Even if it wasn't a good deed... If you thought what you were doing was the best option... I understand. And I'm sorry..."
