Finally a poc main character in a fantasy show and then he gets sidelined so the white girl can be the saviour? The chosen one?

When the entire show they are building up to that fact that Tuiri who has been mistreated and called scum his whole life is the chosen, that he is special. His whole people have been killed. Those who have magic, who are POC and the only white people with that magic are those who have stolen it yet, the main white girl is the true chosen one.

When Tuiri has that buildup of being belittled. Not being good at fighting, struggling his whole life trying to fit it and now he’s special for the first time. And turns out that he isn’t special at all. That once again he is second to someone else. Once again being Eviellan hinders him.

I’m livid. Fuck making me feel things honestly.

Okay, The Letter for the King spoilers below

The plot twist at the end of episode 5 was initially amazing and wonderful to me, but the more I think about it, the more upset I am

I think visually, the reveal was stunning. Lavinia looking visually shaken? The way the camera panned into an aerial shot that reveal that spiral that originated from her feet, not Tuiri’s? Bishop Briggs kickin’ it? That was exciting and thrilling.

But. Tuiri is a black boy who is the lead in a medieval fantasy show. I literally can’t think of another medieval fantasy show where the main character is a black boy. We’re led to believe that he has powers, abilities, that he’s the Chosen One. I can’t think of a black boy who’s been the Chosen One before. (Granted, I could be forgetting someone or not have heard of the story they’re in before; I doubt Tuiri would’ve been the first.)

So for the show to go, “Surprise! Turns out, Tuiri IS a nobody, and the white girl is the Chosen One!” is just...........yikes.

We already have sooooo many White Girl Chosen Ones. And yeah, Tuiri is a hero, he’s still the main character, he’s still an amazing sweet baby angel and I would die for him, but he’s not the savior. He’s not the one wielding the prophetic power. It’s the white girl again. Not the black boy that they lured us into believing.

And I think it’s pretty scummy for them to market the show as being about a black boy who’s the Hero of Prophecy, the Chosen One, the Savior with the Power, and get people’s hopes up (especially POC), and then to reveal that nope, sorry, it’s the white girl.

Man. I’m sad. I really wanted to adore this show. But the more I think about it, the more sad I get. It had so much potential.

here ive come to give u this: His eyes catch onto the bloody figure standing in the middle of a pile of bodies, and he sprints, pulling his sword out of his belt and into his hands as he jumps. His hair billows as he hits the ground, rolling into the landing, and he slices out before he can think, chopping the zombies down. He kills them easily, and their bodies drop. He doesn’t stop until they’re all gone, bodies disappearing into dust, and he turns to look at Dream, wiping the blood (ch limit)
