the universe of us - chapter 21: he
I was thinking of starting a Simonverse based instagram account since im obsessed and almost (like 50 pages left) done with Leah on the Offbeat
Can we all just appreciate Becky Albertalli for a moment?
Warning: some simonverse spoilers
Not only has she led to a mainstream movie with AMAZING gay rep, she has created a universe with so much of the representation that the LGBT community is looking for:
Simon Vs. is widely popular and is great mainstream rep for gay people (and is just so well written!! Like, the structure and format? Spectacular.)
We see interracial gay women just being parents in the Upside of Unrequited because guess what? THESE PEOPLE EXIST! And! Even though the main character is straight, there’s this moment when she thinks she might like a girl but she processes her emotions in such a healthy way that teaches that being queer doesn’t have to be a bad or terrifying thing. And the main character is fat so there’s the added bonus of plus-size rep! I have so much to say about this book, my GOD
LEAH BURKE IS A BI. SHE IS AN ICON. SHE IS A BICON. I don’t think Becky knew how much making Leah bi would mean to me, as a person, an individual. Because my homophobic mum said she’d rather I was gay than bi and that Hurt. But here is my favourite character from my favourite universe being bi. Like me. Leah on the Offbeat is out now! Buy it if you can! Give it so much support.
I love Becky and the Simonverse and no one can change my mind!
I’d just like to point out that in Becky Albertalli’s fourth book (What if it’s us) she references Dear Evan Hansen on the FIRST page. Becky really knows what the people want.
That look on your face, that smile.
Ok I need to hype up 3 things
-the upside of unrequited by (our queen) Becky albertalli
-Leah on the offbeat by Becky albertalli (this one is a more direct sequel of svthsa but tuou is in the same universe)
-What if it’s us by Becky albertalli and Adam Silvera (this comes out on October 9th)
PLEASE DO NOT SLEEP ON THESE. GIVE THEM ALL THE LOVE AND APPRECIATION THAT THEY DESERVE. THEY ARE SUCH GOOD AUTHORS AND ADD SO MUCH TO THE YA LGBTQIA+ COMMUNITY
