Alice Marie Coachman Davis (November 9, 1923 – July 14, 2014) was an American athlete. She specialized in high jump and was the first black woman to win an Olympic gold medal.

Shelby F. Westbrook (1922–2020) was one of the heroic Tuskegee Airmen, the first Black fighter pilots in U.S. history.
Who he was
• Born in Arkansas, raised in Toledo, Ohio
• Joined the Tuskegee Airmen, an all-Black fighter pilot group during WWII
• Served as a fighter pilot with the 332nd Fighter Group (“Red Tails”)
What he accomplished
• Flew more than 60 combat missions in Europe
• Protected bombers and flew dangerous missions over Germany, Italy, and France
• Survived being shot down in enemy territory
• Helped prove Black pilots were skilled, brave, and fully capable, fighting against both war enemies and American racism
After the war
• Became an engineer and inventor
• Helped design components for early TV broadcasting
• Wrote books about his experiences
• Advocated for education and preserving the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen
