Just watching @bbcbreakfast and the article with @itsanitarani There is ONLY one way to reduce #plasticwaste. You can have #TVprogrammes you can have #internetcampaigns But ultimately it is down to us, the consumer, to stop "F ing word" buying it. #Vegetables and #fruit come in their own protective skins. #Butcher's and #bakers and #fishmongers used to wrap things in #paper #Milk and #drinks used to come in #glasscontainers Baked beans used to come in #tins not plastic containers if we, the #consumer leave all the plastic stuff sitting on the supermarket shelves, they will soon change their ways. The #myth of plastic is not for the convenience of the customer. It is done, so supermarkets, can portion and count what they're selling more easily plastic is about minimal waste for the producer extending the life of the produce and manipulating the consumer. You have the power in your pocket. #Don'tbuyit another thing to bear in mind is even if we do our bit in the UK what are the rest of the world doing??? A morning Channel 4 visit with a resourceful masterclass
By Maggie Mlado
Visiting the main building of Channel 4 in London, I got to find out how the Channel operates from the building. I got to see the different teams responsible for running Channel 4.
I was surprised to find out Margaret Thatcher helped in creating and establishing Channel 4, which is publically owned! She’s responsible for pushing the idea for advertising funding to replace licensing fees, the way the BBC works.
On the tour around of the building, we saw some in-house studios; one of which responsible for recording of the “continuity voices” between TV programmes. Another one is an in-house editing suite, where they put together programmes and TV series.
Current C4 apprentices who came to lead a masterclass were Jay Patel, Alex Blowey, Hayley Madhani. They gave precious yet somewhat cliché tips such as being proactive on and before the job, being willing to learn on the go, and being open. Moreover, one of 50 commissioners came in to meet us, Christian Kehoe, who briefly explained to us how he and his colleagues commission shows and programmes that are currently topical and relatable.
Overall, the visit shed light to the diversity of the teams, how the apprentices got their jobs, and the workflow of the commissioners.
