Inspired by a fic I've been reading: Exile but Dream is like sickly sweet nice, he's always trying to be comforting and kind and gentle, despite the fact he's doing absolutely fucking awful things. Like this? This is the true gaslight gatekeep fuckass that could beat Tommy down. It'd be a lot harder to convince him that someone who was being so kind was an awful person and hurt him for no reason as opposed to canon Dream being rough and rude and an asshole so obviously, to which Tommy could accept he sucked easier. Dream just holds Tommy and comforts him even as he forces him to stick his hand into a fire, running a comforting hand through Tommy's hair despite holding him under the water until his vision starts to fade. I just think that would be interesting to see :)

YEAH. I'm not calling rough behaviour lazy writing or anything because it still often makes for an excellent story, but I think it also takes a lot of hard work to make someone act so kind while establishing that they're doing something very, very horrible. And that's what makes me love fics like that. It's such a good part of angst to have a character so unsure what it is they're going through exactly. It feels a lot more complex in my opinion, writing-wise. More difficult for the character to grasp that something's wrong at all

Anyway, I've had an opinion on that one for quite awhile

Return of the angst asks!!

Okay so basically Silence and The Sun time!! I was having a Thought and like.... rereading the dead don't dream as you do and anyways:

SATS Tommy but he's also a shapeshifter. Dream forcing Tommy to shift to look like him, and then doing the same to look like Tommy so he can frame it as Tommy being aggressive towards Dream and threatening to kill him.

Just to sew some seeds of doubts in others when the bastard finally gets caught that Tommy's maybe not as innocent as he acts, maybe he's not really 'just' a victim.

Of course, nobody knows about the whole shapeshifting thing except maybe like Wilbur and Techno, but they're preoccupied with their own stuff, like being dead and whatever Techno does in the arctic.

Consolation: we do get bedrock bros in SATS at least.

Saying this part before I read the ask, but I just read "Silence and The Sun Time!!" and immediately went "oh god"

WHAT. WHAOGJG... I imagine that'd make it so much harder for Tommy. Which is absolutely intentional on your part, this is "make it so much harder for Tommy" the AU. It'd be so much harder to get help, and that alone is something that would make things so, so much worse and more terrifying. That is a really interesting thought

Every time you send an ask, I imagine your brain going, "oh yeah this is an emotionally devestating thought, let's take this to Maria," "finish him," and "K.O."

OKAY IM A BIT LATE CAUSE I PASSED OUT BUT!!

The angst:

Carving the revive book into skin. What if it burns every time the thing works? What if every time Tommy dies, its a searing pain?Tommy being kept in the prison since the start of exile. Tommy being blinded at one point. One eye was just blinded whilst the other was an empty socket, which dream would let purposefully get infected so Tommy would be in pain. Sam finds him one day in the main cell, half-dead, delirious from infection slowly rotting his brain and curled up around a jukebox cause its the only stimuli dream allows. Just curled up around a jukebox to have something to hang onto. I imagine at one point there was all the normal stuff but Tommy likely refused to help dream with experiments one too many times and paid the price with first his eyes and then the stimuli around him. The scarred eye is the first to go, a pickaxe to the face taking it out. Dream jokes about him looking like quackity as he cleans the wound. The second eye was removed entirely, now preserved and kept on a chain dream carries with him, though nobody questioned it cause they thought it was a fucked up accessory he made. Sam realises it's actually Tommy's eye. He took away the other stimuli after Tommy refused further, til all that remained was obsidian walls. Tommy didn't get the jukebox til later, when dream realised that he was drifting away entirely with nothing to hold onto. He gave it under the guise of Tommy being good by staying silent when Sam visits. Alongside mellohi, just to mock him.
