Anyway this is the fic im writing rn. Its a bit slow processing.
Basically: The co-captains of S4 (mostly a certain orange inkling) don't take the captains' team formation too well -while the remaining members do- and then they ended up getting semi-kidnapped/lured by this weird scientist and getting turned into bugs. Then Headphones also somehow ends up getting kidnapped too (thats a whole another plot).
Ahem.
The S4 wants to tell them that they're a permanent team, but they couldn't bc it would be so sudden and out of nowhere so Army comes up with the idea of the remaining S4 members to make teams among their own. They kinda tell this to at least one member at the dead of night, so the teams kinda get sorted during the night.
Straw and W-sailor make teams in a groupchat very quick, and then decide to have them all meet up the next day. Straw, W-sailor, Paisley and Jersey are in one team, while Octoglasses, B-sailor, Stitch and Designer is the other team.
That leaves Forge, Diver, Moon, and Aviators to team up forcefully because they were legitimately not aware of the teams already getting formed. Theyre all so confused and stuff.
While the other two teams are actually quite doing well on their own somehow, the co-captains are...not the best.
Forge tries to lead the team. But shes not the best at it and the remaining cant really cooperate as well. So as a result these mfs lose almost every battle they do and start to bicker/fight every damn time.
Aviators tries to play and actually go along with the plans but he keeps worrying about Skull, that he'll go through a team breakup again and get hurt and Avi won't be by his side this time (pure hc shh). This shit keeps distracting him basically and make him lose his usual cool and be snappy. He's way more sarcastic and rude, because why would he act like everything's well?
Moon is lazy, she barely has any energy to move let alone turf. She's also very upset at Mask, even Jersey and Desi bc like. They all left her alone etc etc. So this lowkey fuels her inability to play properly and as a result she lowkey drags them down. She doesn't take responsibility for it either bc she feels nothing but pure resentment rn and shes taking it out of them.
Diver hates being told what to do, bossed around etc. Him and Aloha were very close, hell he even had a slight(!) crush on him. So Aloha leaving suddenly and not even bothering to tell him (he told straw instead) made him feel like pure shit and thus this makes him snappy too. He also felt very inferior too and this also fueled his resentment towards his current team.
And Forge cannot lead these fuckers AT ALL. Army thinks she can lead pretty well, but Forge thinks she cant, even if she wants to be a leader (and ntm this thought disgusts her bc how dare she think that?). This makes her slowly start losing her patience (and probably sanity too) and question herself. Everything is happening at once and she doesn't know how to process ts.
Their ranks are plummeting. Although as time passes Diver and Avi lowkey start getting closer because how often their paths cross on accident. Then they develop feelings, and then boom they're dating somehow.
Later a while they both (more like Avi mostly) try to include Moon more. At first she's a bit hesitant to join them (she's more closed off unlike Avi's ambiverted and Diver's extroverted(?) nature). Avi develops feelings for her too and he's like 'is that even normal😭😭 liking two people at once' and Diver's like 'it's good man i like her too'. Turns out Moon also liked them too, she was just too spiteful towards her old team to realize that.
Moon joins the party !
They actually do start to cooperate for once and actually win some battles after a long losing streak. Their ranks are not doing the best, but it starts to go up after a while.
Meanwhile Forge tries to come up with strategies and yadda yadda, bc shes paranoid that Army will never bring the team back and now that her rank is pure shit rn he will never return. This makes her overwork herself and turn a blind eye towards everyone around her. (yeah this fic is a bit forge centric...ehehe...)
Including her own current team, Avi Moon and Diver, who are trying to get close to her. Shes glad theyre getting along but she doesnt see theyre trying to include her too. Yeah.
One day she's way too tired and prissy, (still havent decided the reason for that) and would you look at that: they go up against none other than Blue Team.
(PS: Headphones and Forge used to know each other even before they fought Orange for the first time and they didnt leave on good terms so they feel lowkey awkward around each other- exes. Theyre exes LMAO /hj)
Anyyywayyy something happens pre-game (havent planned it mostly yet) and this causes Forge and Phones to just fucking jump each other during the game. And since that isnt allowed, they both get suspended from turfing for a while.
Army sees this and then gets MAD for this stunt. He goes off on Forge about how did she become so careless, yadda yadda, if you continue this you will be kicked out. He also accidentally(? idk abt this part yet) reveals that S4 is permanent, forever.
This was kinda the last straw for Forge.
While she's suspended, Avi, Diver and Moon are not going to any battles either. Whether it's from wanting to spend time with each other, planning on how to score Forge into their polycule, or check on their fellow old team members, idk about this part really.
Forge goes for a scam ad for a fast-rank-up ring she saw a while ago, girlie's desperate atp- she thinks if she goes up to highest ranks like X- Army will forgive her.
The scam ad, turns out it was actually a ring that can make your rank go up just in a few matches. So was it a scam if it actually did the thing it promised?
Yes, yes it was. Because it was a front for an experimentation going on by the owners of the ring, known as Onbin (a sanitized octoling who is a scientist and is running the whole thing) and her lackey Balta (a fuzzy inkling who was a neo agent Squidbreak had to bury).
(Onbin's plan is to create a bug-ified cephalopod army and do what Tartar and Grizz eventually wanted to do.
And the best way to lure people in is by using and twisting the rank system.
In this ring it's basically death battles where ranks go up very fast. For example if it takes -lets say- 20 ranked matches to go up from B to A, in this ring it takes like...5 matches. Turf btw.
There's a price for these matches though. It's respawn. Respawn is turned off for these matches so there's a possibility they can die here, permanently. Also they give the players some kindof an energy drink that can enhance their abilities but its also laced with stuff that makes them come back)
Something something, Forge goes to these battles while she's suspended and that catches the attention of Moon and one day she actually tags along.

Somewhile later Avi and Diver ends up joining those two and then- havent planned much here but they all get kidnapped by Onbin suddenly.
Like I said a few paragraphs ago Onbin's deal is basically making a bug army for herself. They mainly consist of flesh flies (the fly species is important btw) but she wants a set of bugs (+arachnids) that are stronger so she thinks those four are perfect for that.
So she begins experimenting on them on a base. She gives each of them a different bug DNA and modifies them after the creature.
So I actually gave them specific bug species of a specific family but then i decided to go a bit more wider bc. The other species in the families have cool traits so imagine this as several species wrapped in one 💔 i havent make their designs either but ill probably make smth not too detailed sometime
Avi gets a dragonfly. Moon gets a spider. Diver gets a beetle. Forge gets a wasp/hornet.
Onbin decides to perform her tests she usually did on the flies, just MUCH more.
Anyway while these mfs are Going Through It their old teammates take notice of this...except their captains aka S4 themselves bc. Imagine theyre in some tournament rn and theyre so busy so they literally dont notice anything going on.
They all go to this detective agency (another set of ocs but their role isnt really prominent) and turns out the agency had been trying to track this ring. Its the perfect timing so the agency makes the rest of the S4 members work with them (dw the agency isnt evil)
They somehow track Onbin's base down and ambush them, some stuff happens yadda yadda ill write them in the fic hopefully but- they fail to get the cocaptains back.
Although two of them manage to damage something enough to make Onbin seek a new member QUICKLY, so luring etc etc is not an option. So she makes Balta to find and grab the first person but they still cant hold too much attention so she suggests Balta to cause an 'accident'.
The accident happens to be Headphones. It happens, she runs away- and she gets lured in by Balta.
Therefore she gets a centipede DNA chucked at her.
While allat happens the rest of Blue is PANICKING. Something happens they manage to track her and eventually all of them down
So this big fight happens. I dont wanna give away everything too much but at the end of the fight they all almost DIE
But they survive :)
Aaaand thats roughly most of it! Theres also this octoling dude named Tint who basically offered them their current job since they cannot turf anymore 😆
Anyway im gonna make their designs sometime. Some stuff happens after the whole healing arc thingy but i yapped too much and i dont wanna give away too much sooooo
"We gotta be more like them," Shadow Goggles said. "Bobble, you gotta smile like you actually mean it. You look like you're about to kill someone, c'mon."
Shadow Bobble scoffed.
"Headphones, you- you need to be a little more...kind, I guess."
"For the record, the other one is not even kind all the time-"
"She is, actually. She gets sarcastic when she gets mad and not blatantly show it like you."
"Ugh, whatever," Shadow Headphones said with a roll of her eyes, sprawling on the couch more while kicking off a soda can from the table.
"And you..." Shadow Goggles turned to the last remaining member. He walked over to Shadow Specs, the goofy guy smiling at him with his tongue out.
Shadow Goggles leaned forward and held the other's shoulders, and squeezed the inkling slightly.
His frayed tentacles popped up like a sea bunny as there was a genuine squeak sound coming out from the guy.
