Twin Peaks 25th Anniversary Party

Twin Peaks first premiered 25 years ago today, on April 8th, 1990. The television show, created by David Lynch and Mark Frost, quickly became a cult favorite, and despite being cancelled after only two seasons, is still relevant today and lives on as a classic.

In honor of this show (and in hopes of hearing some more news about it's return to Showtime next year), I have decided to share with you some fun ideas to have your very own Twin Peaks party!

Ambiance  

As a fan of Twin Peaks, you know that 99% of  Lynchian success is the ambiance. To recreate the Black Lodge  vibe for your party, try these simple techniques:

RED CURTAINS

I bought some big red curtains and hung them to the walls where the food table was going to be (i.e. my kitchen).  I also used a red tablecloth to help tie the look of everything together, especially because my kitchen table does not match at all.  Decide for youself whether to do this or not,  based on how well your table fits with everything. 

BLACK AND WHITE ZIG ZAG COASTERS

Unless you're lucky enough to find (or already own!)  a carpet that resemblesthe floors or the black lodge, you're going to want to display the pattern elsewhere. I printed out the pattern, bought some 99¢ coasters and used double sided tape to secure it on top. 

PORTRIAT OF LAURA PALMER

Just print it out, frame it, and volia!

OWLS, OWLS, OWLS

I discovered while decorating for this party that I in fact have quite a few owl figurines and such around my apartments. I used some of these on the table to help tie the whole spread together in a Twin Peaks theme.

LOG

I cannot tell you how much I wanted to have a log as the centerpiece for the party, or at least sitting somewhere in the room as an added reference, but unfortunately I was unable to obtain it (I live in sunny Southern California, firewood isn't exactly laying around.)

VENUS DE MILO

If you have a replica of the Venus de Milo statue, you're a little ahead of the game. You could always make oe yourself, I dunno maybe with paper mache or something, or do what I did and use an old mannequin. It's not perfect, but your guests will get the idea. I bought my mannequin at a department store that was closing down for $10 and painted it's roughed up skin a bright white.

EXTRAS

A few extra things I did to help create good ambiance: candles (especially around the portiat of Laura Palmer), bottles of red wine, a glass bottle of bourbon, some David Lynch music playing in the background, or just the show on constantly. 

FOOD AND DRINK

DAMN FINE CHERRY PIE

Either bake it yourself or buy some, as long as it's a dish Agent Cooper would be happy with.

DAMN FINE COFFEE

Have the biggest coffee snob you know help you pick out the good stuff, and be sure to brew it in a french press or percolator (no fish required).

DONUTS

Ditch the pink box and set them out in a neat pyrimid stack, or on a tiered display.

LAURA PALMERS

My good friend Brian actually came up with this recipe one night while marathoning Twin Peaks with a friend. They're similar to the alcoholic version of an Arnold Palmer, but with cranberry juice instead of lemonade. 

·         Vodka

·         Iced black tea

·         Cranberry juice

Mix a shot of vodka with equal parts tea and juice. Pour over ice.

I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE IT WILL LEAD YOU, BUT I HAVE A DEFINITE FEELING THAT IT WILL BE A PLACE BOTH WONDERFUL AND STRANGE.
