I actually love that Yellowjackets is set in two different timelines. I think it's interesting to see the girls in 1995 get traumatized, and then see how that trauma affected them in their adults lives.
"Do you remember how to do this?"
"Yeah, it's like riding a really fucked up bicycle."

Two Lifetimes/Timelines
The two fics will be delayed for some time and yes, I do have some reasons for that:
1. I have to write every event down on a timeline for this one. This is something I only ever do for the novel I write (& need to finish).
2. I am creating siblings for the other children. This is mostly because of my own personal hc. I am also creating a few other characters for both sides of the story.
3. Splitting up the two into two separate fics means I have to work on certain scenes I just skipped before.
4. I am changing up the relationships. At least to a degree. Like Chrom & Olivia are staying a married couple but others like Virion and Sully will be changing.
Story of Two Timelines
So I was playing Fire Emblem awakening, which has a plot point of the character Chrom's daughter arriving from the future to try to help stop a tragedy and got to thinking about a story with similar themes/plots and began to play with it a bit.
Main character in one timeline rediscovers magic in a world just like ours. Over the course of a few decades ends up becoming a world leader after several world altering events they commit (I'm thinking of things along the lines of ending a war, discovering a school of magic that makes medical/biological needs extremely easy, lots of utopia type stuff). They would be the one to discover like 80% of the schools of magic that exist (At the moment, I'm thinking a lot like Dungeons and Dragons schools of magic, but with a personal twist. I like the Dominic Deegan approach to Necromancy at how it's largely misunderstood, even by the best practitioners of it, and would like to portray it in a positive light.)
Cut to the "Normal" timeline (The one that the story would be focusing on) and you see the M.C. without any magic (I'm thinking of them being jaded or possibly depressed but that can be fleshed out moreso at some other time) and their child from the alternate future shows up telling them they have to start learning magic much sooner and faster. A threat that effects both timelines simultaneously (from it's perspective, timey/wimey wibbly/wobbly) is coming and the M.C. from "normal" timeline is the only one with the potential to do anything about it and/or some connection to the M.C. of the other timeline helps them fight the threat from both timelines at once.
So far it's playing like a typical shounen battle style anime/manga in my head, but lots of stories I come up with start like that until I start fleshing out characters and themes and such, gives me a jumping off point.
Need to come up with ideas for schools of magic, I want several but Rune Reading (working name, obviously) is one I like, (Symbols are big to me, just look at my avatar! You can't wear tie-dye almost every day of your life for almost a decade without it having some meaning to you!) necromancy like I mentioned earlier, and I will likely need several others. And the further it departs from the typical DnD style ones the better, Flesh Warping sounds fun too. Though I'd have to be careful not to clash with the tone of the story too much on that one, body horror is a rather specific taste, and those that don't like it are usually repulsed, so there's not much middle ground for that in a story.
I like the idea of "Child from the future comes to help parent" because it really pushes the "Grow up fast or fail" mentality of the story. You have to live up to the impossible expectations of a child who's lived with a much more mature (And in the case of this story, far more powerful) version of yourself that you weren't even meant to achieve by normal means in the "normal" timeline.
There are four characters so far that are existing in my head for this story (five if you include the M.C. in both timelines). The M.C. of course, the child (Who I'm leaning towards daughter, but that's not set in stone), a General from the "threat" (Or just some nebulous leader/opponent to the M.C.'s rise to power in the other timeline) that winds up eventually becoming an ally (And maybe comic relief at times? I keep imagining this balding dude with a funny mustache and it makes me giggle), and the last one is the guy that would replace the General, so we'll call him Lieutenant (jesusfuck that's a hard word for me to spell, how'd I get that right first try????) who's a far more serious individual that controls some of the few schools of magic the M.C. never got their hands on. (Reason for his rank would be being unwilling to play politics, as strength and talent aren't the only reason one is promoted in military situations).
Might keep the cast itself pretty thin for this story and focus on the dynamic between the M.C. and the child (I haven't mentioned, thinking of the child being like 18 years old in the story, just for maximum "I'm the parent of someone that's like within 5 years of my age" time travel hilarity). Already starting the pull set pieces and story theme ideas I've had from a few other stories, which I suppose is the entire point of me writing this stuff down a lot more lately. Even if a throw an idea concept in the trash, it's big pieces and interesting ideas can be used for something else.
Anyway, this is too long already, need to get some more ideas on paper and I need to rewrite some ideas for a fantasy setting story I've had in my head far longer than this one.
