Unhinged Cars or Planes Headcanon Wednesday: Sheriff
Been wanting to gush about my beloved donut car for a while, now. Enjoy!
-Sheriff's full name is Sheriff Royce Campbell (Factory Designation M8C1949255CU09281934). He is the oldest of two children sired to Sergeant Henry Campbell and Maryanne Elizabeth Campbell nee Sheetwelder. He was manufactured on September 28, 1934 at the Ford Factory in Detroit, Michigan, and was modeled in the likeness of an Old World, 1949 Mercury Eight two-door coupe.
-Yes, his legal first name IS Sheriff. It's sort of a running theme in his family to name male children after various military/police ranks. He's the third person to carry the name "Sheriff" (the others were his maternal grandfather and his paternal great-great grandfather). His brother's name is Major.
-Most everyone in his family is a cop or works for the police/FBI/ATF in some capacity.
-Sheriff grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, and he enrolled in the Charlotte Police Academy when he turned nine, just like his father.
-He received the Honor Graduate Award in 1945 for his academic acumen, high level of proficiency with a firearm, and his technical driving skills. He was hired by the Charlotte City Police Department almost immediately thereafter, with his father serving as his FTO.
-He was recruited into a revenuer task force in 1947 under the command of Captain Lorence Camber where he would achieve the rank of Corporal.
-For reasons unknown he was demoted back to officer status and transferred to Carburetor County, Arizona in 1949 where he served as a deputy under Sheriff Randy Coldweld. Coldweld's way of policing was unlike anything Sheriff encountered in Charlotte. He fully believed that empathy and compassion were FAR more effective at controlling crime than fear, and he worked bumper to bumper with Stanley and Lizzie to make sure that the residents of Radiator Springs had access to affordable food, housing and education.
-Coldweld was forced to retire for medical reasons in 1950. A special election was held that year, and Sheriff was elected to replace him.
-He only keeps in touch with his brother, having been disowned by his late parents shortly before moving to Radiator Springs.
-Sheriff knew Doc's true identity--having figured it out pretty early on in their friendship. He never let on because he respected Doc's privacy, though he came clean after the tie-breaker race.
-Despite his conservative upbringing, Sheriff is bisexual. He and Doc have been in a relationship since 1958
-While working for the CCPD, he had a pair of .378 H&H Magnum rifles mounted to his undercarriage. He swapped them out for parking boots when he became the sheriff of Radiator Springs
-He loves Lightning like a son
-His has a double-digit kill count
-He has his own place just a bit northwest of town. It's small, but the lot, itself, is 103 acres, most all of which borders route 66 where it heads up towards Tailfin Pass. There's a large, outdoor kitchen in the backyard, and Sheriff hosts a cookout every year on the fourth of July, complete with custom fireworks (he makes them; Sarge fires them; Red makes sure the fallout doesn't start any wildfires).
-He visits Doc's memorial every Sunday (his only day off), and brings a bouquet of flowers on their (dating) anniversary (May 12th)
-He hasn't dated anyone since Doc passed...and he doesn't plan to

You know how everyone talks about Ripslinger being a soulless Chick Hicks knockoff? Because I love drama, I've decided to do something about it.
This headcanon's going to be massive hear me out, but imagine: Ripslinger has a huge celebrity crush on Chick Hicks.
Rip was bullied in school (for some reason I'm still trying to figure out) for his entire k-12 education. His way of taking power back was scaring people off, and he'd never seen anyone do it as flawlessly as Chick.
Chick learns about Ripslinger in one of his vehicle sporting magazines (currently trying to come up with the name and features of this fictional magazine), and chuckles to himself, thinking: Lookie here. This kid's a lot like me! It wouldn't hurt to follow these air races sometime.
Out of the blue, Chick recognizes Rip in a bar somewhere and taps on his shoulder saying, Nice wings you got there, kid, and Rip nearly falls off his stool. He's trying hard not to fanboy, but he eventually spills that Chick was one of his inspirations.
In my mind, Chick has no idea Rip tried to kill Dusty, but coming face to face with the reality that someone wanted to be like him is jarring. Chick knows he's an asshole, but it's okay because being an asshole is his thing, and there are enough good athletes in the world for his own assholishness to not matter. Chick was just doing what his father taught him, what he needed to survive in the industry, but when he sees this twenty-something, baby-faced pilot who based his persona and racing strategy off of Chick's cruelty and then brought it into a whole other sport, it makes Chick feel uncomfortable. He doesn't know how to react, so he makes an awkward joke that comes off more as an insult to Rip.
Rip lets it slide, because he still has the hots for this man, but he sinks into the familiar feeling of trying to escape a bully.
They both leave the bar feeling ashamed.
This is lowkey more of a ficlet, but if anyone else wants to add onto this idea I'd be thrilled! I'm a sucker for angst.
Ive posted this headcanon before, but I think it deserves a resurgence because I think it's great:
Darrell Cartrip is banned from drinking anything with caffeine in it. Bob made the call after having to put up with an over excited, overstimulated Darrell that resulted in zero sleep and rediculously unhinged shenanigans.
We are all very much aware that Darrell is an international talking champion. Can you imagine how bad it could be when mixed with stimulants?

Thinking about Lightning learning to do domestic activities with Sally for the first time. No one really payed attention to him as a child, so he was never taught basic cooking, cleaning, housekeeping, etc. skills. Then, when he made his big break in the racing world, his team took care of all those things for him.
When Lightning takes a break from racing for the first time, he realizes he likes the simplicity, the silence of folding clothes.
Sally is shocked to see her partner take an interest in household chores. Her friends tell her it's a pain to get their men to pick up after themselves, but she can't relate.

Welcome to "Unhinged Cars or Planes Headcanon Wednesday" or "ucopwednesday"!
Hi everyone! I wanted to combat my inactivity on this blog by starting a weekly event for myself or anyone who wants to join in. Every Wednesday I will be posting an "unhinged" Cars or Planes headcanon that plagues my mind, but I don't have the time to turn into a fic. If you would like to join me, the rules are simple:
You must post on Wednesday (different timezones are fine as long as it's Wednesday where you live)
The post must include at least one headcanon related to the World of Cars universe or its characters (this includes OCs!)
Headcanons don't necessarily need to be "unhinged"
You do NOT need to post every Wednesday to be a part of ucopwednesday. It can be a once and a while thing or a weekly thing depending on what you want.
Tag the post with #ucopwednesday so we can find it!
This does not mean I want people to stop posting their headcanons on other days. I just wanted to create a reminder for myself to post a headcanon every Wednesday, since I want to keep creating consistent content for this fandom. Small fandoms also get less creator events to participate in, so I wanted to create one that was simple, low stakes, and easy to join.
