Okay I need to talk about this scene in "Nightwalkers" because I've had Thoughts™ about it for awhile and they've been screaming to be let out of my head
So at the beginning of this episode Jonas is basically masking during their mission briefing trying to fit in, and then Sam asks him why he didn't infodump as usual. To which he responds with, "I just don't want people around here to start thinking I'm strange." Sam is really sweet about it and tries to make him feel less self-conscious. That's an essay for another time, but what I want to focus on is the fact Jonas on some level KNOWS that people find him strange. He's even aware of why people might find him strange. So why does that matter? Well, fast-forward to this scene later on in the episode, when the trio is undercover and Sam asks Jonas and Teal'c what happened to them at the bar
And then Jonas responds with
I used to think his reaction here was due to genuine obliviousness, but after remembering his conversation with Sam earlier, I have since reevaluated it. And I have come to the conclusion that babygirl knows EXACTLY why Sam is asking him that question and looking at him funny. He may not be able to stop being "weird" (and honestly more power to him, we love a sweetiepie genius neurodivergent king), but he knows that people see him that way. Again, he says so at the beginning of the episode. So I think instead of not understanding why Sam is (gently) calling him out, he's intentionally playing dumb to mess with his new friend (whom he admires and arguably even idolizes a bit). This is his version of sarcastic humor, which we see a glimpse of in "Redemption" with his "this man is very upset" joke.
And guess what? It works. Sam's immediate reaction is this
She gets this split-second smile on her face like she's about to laugh, as if she's just realized that Jonas is actually way more of a little shit than any of them gave him credit for. It's one of the many tiny, subtle moments in season 6 where he manages to break through her reluctance to get emotionally attached to her new teammate because she's still grieving Daniel. He's charming and funny in an offbeat way, and it puts her at ease even if at first she's not sure about him. It also sets up the scene after this where she teases him about "wormhole theory, motorcycle riding, and lockpicking." He initiates the teasing, so she feels comfortable enough to reciprocate. The budding bond between them is so adorable, 10000/10 wholesome vibes, and it's an absolute crime that we didn't get to see it develop over multiple seasons
