GUHHHHHHH. GWEUHGHHUHHHHHHH
Hey chibi, your posts are a joy to read and I'm happy we have you in this fandom! What if Kuroshitsuji got a new anime adaptation that closely follows the manga? (like FMA did) instead of making up a completely new story and changing the characters like current anime? Would you support it? Would it be unnecessary? Is there anything from the "old anime" that you'd like to keep?

Dear Anon,
First of all, awwwwwwwwww, thanks ^///^
How very funny that you should bring this up! 💗 Me and my dear friend just happened to be talking about the first anime and the beginning of the manga!
My friends and sister all agree that if we had watched the anime as anything older than impressionable early teens, we would never have come to like the series enough to read the manga. Right now I cannot look at the first anime without cringing, so the anime indeed needs a BIG revamping in my opinion.
Reversely, if we had met Kuro through the manga, we would not have been able to make it past the first volume to be sure. The beginning of the manga was…pathetic and had tone problems. For this reason, no, I would definitely NOT want a new anime to be made that follows also the beginning of the manga faithfully (heck, even Yana doesn’t like the beginning!)
The Manga’s Beginning…
Had we have an anime that followed also the beginning of the manga faithfully, we would first be greeted with this “hello”… It was quite a cheap and unimpressive character exposition of Sebastian’s martial skills if you ask me.
There is also Ciel who was nothing but a damsel in distress disguised as a sulky kid. O!Ciel’s awkward but meaningful relationship with Lizzie has been explored very well now by this point of the manga. However, if we look at the earliest chapters, it is quite unbelievable it is the same person. How could we possibly care about O!Ciel caring about Lizzie if this is the first impression we have?
Then speaking of Lizzie. We now all know what the Phantomhive ring means to O!Ciel. Obviously Lizzie would not know just HOW important the ring was, but it defies my logic that Lizzie would not at least have guessed that the ring had sentimental value. In the very least it is a momento of her fiance’s late father.
In the beginning of the manga however she acts like a total self-important, pushy brat and yanks it off O!Ciel’s hand. When O!Ciel understandably gets infuriated at it, Lizzie throws another tantrum, and all she had to back her motivations up was: “your vastly important ring does not look good with the outfit I FORCED onto you.” I myself have a momento too which is very important to me. If anybody dared smash it like that I can’t guarantee blood won’t be spilled.
Considering everything, I think O!Ciel still managed to control himself VERY well. But that is exactly what Yana was going for; using ‘the annoying girl’ to juxtapose against ‘the controlled boy’ to emphasise the male virtue. A trope as old as it is stale… *Cough Indiana Jones 2 COUGH*
Then there is Sebastian…
We know from chapter 113 and chapter 161 for a fact that Sebastian is constantly on alert for potential intruders and the whereabouts of his contractor. How did Sebas not manage to prevent the kidnapping at the beginning of the manga in the first place? I know, I know, plot device.
So yes… would I support a faithful adaptation of the manga? No. Would it be necessary… probably also not. I think it would do the story more bad than good.
Personally I think the Jack the Ripper arc with a FEW tweeks at the beginning would suffice as an adequate introduction to the story. Many people who first watched the musical ‘Lycoris that Blazes the Earth’ said that they didn’t feel like they missed any prior establishment. Indeed, neither the beginning of the manga nor anime gave any information we REALLY needed to enjoy and understand the series.
Asking anybody to write a whole new story as an introduction to Kuro would be unnecessary, instead it would be better to re-animate the JTR arc with a little ‘prologue’. And PLEASE yeet Fukuyama Jun out of the production. Replace him with Uehara Takuya please.
In the post linked above I did mention a few things I did like about the first anime, so with a litttttle bit more plot consideration, those could definitely be kept. Otherwise anything else needs to be yeeted 20 years ago.
I failed my research project proposal 😭 the document i got back is littered with comments
