Sustainable and Healthy Lifestyles
So, majority of you know that I’m an environmental science major. I have cared about the environment since I was a little girl. The topic I always picked even as a fifth grader in school was global warming. I was aware that there was something wrong with our environment at a young age. I have tried my best to cut back on things that cause harm to the environment so today I shall share with you some things I have learned and some places to check out.
Fast fashion is so bad for our environment. Majority of the clothes end up in land fills and the working environment is usually not good. Here is some of the things I do to limit my fast fashion buying
Thrifting - I know that it might not seem like the ideal thing to do, but thrift stores have so many hidden gems as well as current pieces. Plato’s Closet is a good example of this. It is a more curated thrift store while goodwill is not. It really just depends on what you are looking for.
Reformation - It’s a nearly sustainable company that released limited edition collections. Once they are done making the items they are done. They are on the pricy side, but the work they are doing is so amazing. They are creating jobs, planting trees to help with the CO2, and limiting the amount of waste they are producing.
So, all those grocery bags you are getting from the store are probably hiding away in a cupboard somewhere. It’s not good because majority of the time people don’t recycle them. That is why I have a solution for that. Reusable tote bags! Most grocery stores have their own they sell for about 99 cents or 2 dollars. They are pretty cheap. Some grocery stores like Whole Foods will take a few cents off your grocery order if you use tote bags.
UKonserve - This company deals with making reusable containers that are not made from plastic. They sell everything from coffee cups, water bottles, and food containers.
Sand Cloud - I might have mentioned this company on here before but I’m an ambassador for this company. They donate 10% of their sales to save marine life. They even show little snapchats of where some of the money is going to and they were able to release two sea lions back to the wild. You can get 25% off if you use my discount code at EmilyFs25 so please check them out.
Animals Anonymous Apparel - They are another company that donates some of the profits to help animals like elephants for example. They have a ton of shirts with all different kind of animals on it. I found this through one of my zookeeper friends so you know it’s a good company if they like it.
Colors For Conservation - Ahhh this is a super cool company. They make all kinds of art in relation to animals. You can find pieces for otters, turtles, elephants, and a ton more. They also sell shirts, tote bags, jewelry, and loads more. They donate some of the profits to a foundation that helps with animal conservations.
Wow, I am sorry that this was such a long post. I wanted to showcase some amazing companies and the work that they do. It doesn’t take much for YOU to make a change in the world we live in. I would love to know if anyone of you have shopped at these companies before or if you want to shop at them now because you have read this post.
