Inktober Day 26: Favorite Pokemon #6, Volcarona!
Before generation 5, most butterfly/moth based pokemon were fairly generic and didn’t have much use beyond early game. But then along comes Volcarona, whom not only has high stats (particularly its 135 special attack) but an original (and awesome) type combination of bug and fire. In general, generation 5 really raised the bar for bug types, giving us new concepts, designs, and type combinations, and Volcarona happens to be my favorite of the bunch. This flaming moth has an amazing design, with its 6 majestic wings that resemble tiger lily petals. In addition, it makes devastating use of the setup move Quiver Dance; I have fond memories of blowing through teams in the battle subway with a Quiver Dance boost or two. It’s also the only pokemon to have the attack Fiery Dance, which has a 50% chance of boosting Volcarona’s special attack to even more absurd levels.
