To be a trouble maker was one thingâ
To be her trouble maker was another.
Time was long forgotten ever since Fenomeno started paying attention to you, you were not a serious criminalâYou didn't harm other, you never laid your hands on anybody, you certainly didn't mess with other serenity's:
Except hers.
And Fenomeno was anything but all figuring out why was she feelings that way: why does her heart acheâand thump, in way she can't figured outâWhy was her pulse pumping in a speed she can't quite say as normal.
And to that: she decided that no other option was left except than to investigate whether or not if you actually are commiting a crime against her.
And to say the least: it was a debate of yes, and no.
That entirely depends if disturbing her peace counts as a crime: although, you've never heard her utter the slightest words of rejection over it.
Your hand rested against her palm as she insisted you stay by her side, patrolling aimlessly while her watchful eyes lingered on youâcautious, as though at any moment you might disrupt the fragile peace around you.
And you, in quiet surrender, simply accepted it, a faint smile tugging at your lips as you found amusement in her concern.
So it came as no surprise that the two of you ended up lingering without purpose, caught in a standstill that neither seemed willing to break..
âWell, Officer, we havenât done anything but stand around,â you murmured, your voice soft yet edged with impatience.
The ticking clock filled the silence between you, each second stretching longer than the last as the hands crept past the point they had been when Fenomeno first insisted you stay.Â
You let out a small breath, your gaze drifting before settling back on her. âShouldnât I be freed now?â you asked, the question carrying more than curiosityâsomething gentler, almost teasing, threaded beneath it.
And to that, you tilted your head slightly, a subtle motion that brought your eyes to meet hers from the corner of your gaze.
In that fleeting moment: something within her shifted. The composure she had wrapped around herself seemed to dissolve, unraveling into a storm of restless butterflies.
Her breath hitched just enough to betray her, the warmth rising uninvited to her cheeks as your presence pressed closer than it had any right to.
With the same hitch of breath, she finally opened her mouth: âI will not shift my duty under any circumstances, even when faced to distraction as you.â Fenomeno replied, her tone firm, shaped by discipline and habit.
Yet the sharpness she intended never quite reached you. It softened midway, losing its edge like a blade dulled by hesitation.
Her eyes betrayed her further, slipping downward instead of holding your gaze, as though meeting it would reveal too muchâmore than she was prepared to admit.
âŠher plan had unraveled terribly.
You can't help but made a sound akin to a chuckle, as the airy laugh let out your mouth and into the airânoticing the hint of light pink on her cheeks. "So .. you admit I'm tempting?" You questioned herânudging on her side lightly.
It seems to backfire even worse nowâShe should've known you were a notorious bully.
Fenomeno tried to not make her further hitch of breath obvious, although the both of you knew that it was the oppositeâit was as if she was trying to convince herself, more than you.
"You're twisting my word.." she murmured, half giving upâas her eyebrows furrowed into a knot. "Iâ.. I merely expressed that you're rather eye-catching, to the point it's disturb others." She added underneath her breath.
That was yet another poor defense of hers; no matter what she said, you always found a way to bend it into something that suited you.
Your gaze lingered on her longer than intended, tracing the shift in her expression as those once-calm eyes tightened within moments. It was endearing in a way she would never allow herself to admit. The warmth shared through her palm lingered, and without thinking, your fingers moved, brushing softly against her skin in a slow, absent caress.
You stole another glanceâonly to find hers already on you: in which, she panicked and immediately turned her face away.
ââŠwell, Officer,â you murmured, voice low with quiet mischief, âa criminal should have a policeâs eyes on her at all times. You canât look awayâŠâ Your touch lingered just a second longer. âWhat if I ran away?â
That seemed to strike something deep within Fenomeno. She turned to you at once, panic flickering across her face as though the mere thought of you slipping away had taken shape in her mind.
Her hand tightened instinctively beneath yours, unwilling to let go. Even her tail fell still against the floor, stripped of its earlier restlessness, as if the idea alone had unraveled her. Her ears fell flat, as pout made it way to her face.
ââŠthen who would keep an eye on you?â she asked, her voice edged with urgency, almost fragile in its insistence. âSomeone else? Another criminal? Thereâs no other officer aroundââ The words tumbled out of her in a rush, each one betraying more than she intended.
Your chest tightened faintly at the sight, knowing full well you had drawn this reaction from her.
Her gaze dropped, a soft frown replacing the firmness she once held. Her brows eased into something uncertain
âŠyou really did affect herâfar more than either of you was ready to admit.
and at that: you held her hand even more tighter, not enough to actually hurt herâbut just to assure.
ââŠwell, that means I have to stay with you, right?â you murmured, your tone softening just enough to ease the tension curling in her chest. You felt it in the way her hand relaxed beneath yours, the way her breath steadied, even if only slightly.
Fenomeno knew from the glint of your eyes that youre planning to say something ridiculous.
âBut, Meno⊠I really do want to go on a date.â Your voice dipped, quieter now, almost earnest. âAnd since youâre officially my officer⊠I guess that means we have to go on one now, huh?â
Something shifted within her againâonly this time, it wasnât the tight panic or the fragile uncertainty from before. Warmth bloomed instead, sudden and overwhelming, spilling across her cheeks in a deep shade.
She coughed lightly, turning her face just enough to hide it, as though the simple act might gather her scattered thoughts.
Her fingers tightened faintly against yours, grounding herself in the contact as she tried to steady the way her heart had begun to race.
A moment passed, stretched thin with unspoken feeling, before she finally forced the words outâuneven, barely above a whisper. ââŠStay Gold is right⊠youâre a bad influence on me.â
Her voice carried no real resistance. And though she tried to mask it, there was no refusal in her tone. It was as if she indeed want it as well.
ââŠoh? And how would you know?â you asked softly, your voice dipping into something quieter, more deliberate.
You stepped closer, closing the distance until only a breath remained between you, the space charged with something unspoken.
âYouâll never know until you go on a date with me⊠so what youâre saying nowââ your lips curved faintly, ââis nothing but a baseless accusation.â
Your gaze held hers, unrelenting yet warm. âA crime.â
Fenomeno faltered instantly. The words struck her harder than they should have, leaving her momentarily defenseless. Her lips parted as if to argue, to reclaim her ground, yet no sound came. The realization settled too quicklyâshe had no way to deny it, no firm ground to stand on.
A soft flush deepened across her cheeks, spreading beneath your gaze, impossible to hide. Her fingers twitched faintly in your hold, as though unsure whether to pull away or cling closer.
ââŠokay then,â she finally murmured, her voice quieter now, stripped of its earlier certainty. âIâll go with you⊠as a law-abiding officer.â
The excuse was fragile, something she placed between you like a thin shield, barely holding together.
.. you felt less awful of tricking her now.
