Sirius Black had the night planned down to a tee. Of course, Remus and James helped some, and Peter gave his own input on the best ways to go about it, but Sirius had put in all the work. While Remus and James had Y/N’s attention on matters elsewhere—specifically the irrevocable, confusing fiasco of who-did-it and why-did-they-do-it—Sirius had gone and outdone himself, finding the perfect place, the perfect food, the perfect everything. All the hard work had come out to be a great success, and now all Sirius had to do was lead Y/N to her destiny.
The girl in question was rather befuddled when Sirius approached her while spying on one of the culprit’s new victims, whisked her away, and proceeded to produce a strip of cloth from behind his back. She eyed it reproachfully, twisting her mouth around with confusion and debating whether or not to flee before he could pounce. “What the hell is that for?” she asked him.
Sirius gave a large grin and winked. “It’s a blindfold,” he explained. “I want everything to be a surprise.”
“Everything? Surprise?” Y/N was completely clueless, to say the least.
Her mischievous boyfriend went behind her and softly pulled the blindfold taut against her eyes, tying it into a sloppy-looking knot at the back. He leaned forward and nipped at her earlobe. “Don’t worry,” he whispered, “I won’t lead you into any walls or disappearing steps.”
She giggled at him, tilting her head backward to grin at him. Even though she was defenseless and blind, she could still feel his presence and smell the soft essence of cinnamon conditioner and maple tree shower-gel. “Oh, you wouldn’t dare,” she said teasingly.
Sirius grabbed her by the nock of her elbow and began to pull her through a corridor Y/N couldn’t place, even with the years of smelling and feeling and knowing Hogwarts like the creases in her palm or the thoughts in Sirius’s head. It was strange, feeling so vulnerable and blind, but she knew that Sirius wouldn’t allow her to walk into any walls, fall through any stairs, or bump into any unwanted bystanders. He was too good a man to do something such as that.
“So, is this a date, then?” Y/N asked him a mere minute after making the first turn, curiosity reaching its peak. Sirius glanced down at her with a knowing expression and laughed.
“Of course it’s a bloody date. I wouldn’t be leading you somewhere just for a quick shag, now would I?” Even with those words feeling right, he knew they really weren’t. Y/N and him were always sneaking around to snog, shag, and undress one another with the eyes. It was a common occurrence, of course, and Remus and James knew it was best to avoid the seventh-year dorm when Sirius and Y/N were seen on the map with one another at close proximity. James enjoyed jesting that they were in a chronic honeymoon-phase, and though they denied it at every turn, it was the honest truth and they both sodding knew it, too.
“You would,” Y/N whispered, like it was some big secret. Teasingly, she knocked her foot back into his leg. “Don’t give me that shite.”
Sirius didn’t reply. They’d finally reached the Room of Requirements, where he planned to have their date. When his feet stopped moving, he also jerked Y/N into a place of immobility—which was partially a mistake, because it made her slam right into his torso and let out a string of curses.
McGonagall was in passing, and she gave the two a sharp glare. “Do I need to deduct points, Mr. Black and Ms. L/N?” she said sternly.
Sirius shook his head frantically while Y/N’s complexion paled under the blindfold. “Of course not, Professor!”
With one last look in their direction, Professor McGonagall was off in a flourish of robes.
The two waited in silence until Sirius was completely sure that the stern-faced woman was gone from earshot. Then, he placed Y/N against the wall and paced three times fast in front of the area beside her.
Y/N heard his footsteps and began to panic. “Sirius, what the hell are you doing?”
The door to the Room of Requirements appeared in front of the boy, and he smirked. “Just getting the date all ready to go, love!” he said cheerily. He grappled her into his arms and quickly pushed the two of them into the mysterious room.
Though Y/N was blind, she could still feel the aroma-filled atmosphere and hear the soft sounds of violins playing on a phonograph. It was strange, hearing it when usually Y/N and Sirius had dates in the boys’ dorm that involved candy from Hogsmeade and dinner from the kitchens, but this couldn’t be the dorm—it was too quiet and spacious to be anywhere near the Gryffindor common-room. Y/N whipped her head back and forth, trying to pinpoint Sirius due to the curiosity now flooding her veins.
“Can I take the blindfold off now?” she pleaded with a pout. She was all jittery with butterflies, unable to contain her excitement. Her feet betrayed her anxiety, making her repeatedly step back and forth, back and forth—all like a damned lunatic.
Sirius rolled his eyes at his girlfriend, but complied nonetheless. He reached over and untied the blindfold, allowing it to flutter to the ground like a featherlight weight. “Here we are,” he said with a grin.
Y/N blinked her eyes in an attempt to readjust her sight before she could finally absorb the beautiful place. There were all sorts of things—all sorts of romantic things. When she turned herself around, committing to a counterclockwise swerve, she seen it all—the phonograph by a grand, beautifully-lit window, then a table for two sat by a massive bookcase filled with board games, books, and candles. Y/N noticed with a soft smile that there were even pictures of her and Sirius surrounding it, on canisters beside it or sitting wedged between two books, acting as paperweights and bookstands. It was a beautiful place, and it was hard to believe that Sirius had done all of this for her—for her.
Y/N slowly turned back to Sirius. He was standing there with a delicate grin on his face, anticipation written into every crevice—like he was waiting for something. She knew exactly what he was expecting.
With a swift hop, she was holding onto him for dear life and kissing his lips with vigor unexpected for someone as soft and gentle as her. Sirius stumbled back in surprise, but never allowed her lips to leave his; he quickly grabbed her into a hug, arms encircling her waist as hers encircled his neck.
For a moment, they merely held one-another, two hearts beating as one—two mouths moving as one—two souls intertwined as one. And for the first time since Y/N had met Sirius, she envisioned a life with the two of them married, a Quidditch team of children between the two of them and the Marauders and Lily as their neighbors and lifelong companions. She could see it now—the two of them still in the honeymoon phase, never losing the love they had for each other, even after all the years of hardship, war, and worry. Y/N felt love and compassion for Sirius more-so than ever, and it made her arms tighten just a little bit harder and her lips press against his as though it were their last day on Earth.
When Sirius pulled back, he peeked down at his girlfriend. His eyebrows were cocked in utter surprise. “What was that for, love?” Y/N noted with a sly grin that his lips were plump, hair was messy, and his eyes were twinkling. Ravished, the bloke was.
Y/N kissed him again, and it was just as passionate and loving as it had always been. She was beaming with happiness. “I just really, really love you, Sirius.” And she quickly pulled him over to the candlelit dinner he had sat, the melodic violins giving an undertone of romanticism. They were so, so happy; nothing could break them apart.
But you know what they say—there’s always a calm before the storm.
