Just thinking about Gerard forming an unhealthy codependency on Mikey. From the minute Mikey is born, Gerard feels attached to him in a way he's never experienced before. It's a complete knew feeling and he couldn't quite explain it. He was too young to understand the emotion yet, but subconsciously, he knew that Mikey was his. That he had been since the moment he was born.
Everyone around them thinks it's cute. He constantly wants to hold and carry Mikey around. He spends most his days staring at him and keeping an eye on him. He gets protective of Mikey, watching new people around him. He's always trying to get Mikey involved in whatever he's doing, despite their parents telling him Mikey's too little to play yet. But that didn't matter, he could wait.
As Mikey gets older, it's even more fun. Soon, he's able to play games with Gerard and even talk to him. They were always inseparable. Demanding to sleep in the same bed, constantly doing things together, Mikey had to be everywhere Gerard was. He was Gerard's shadow in every definition of the word and it made Gerard's heart race how much he felt loved by Mikey.
He could put more words to his feelings now and he was sure Mikey was his soulmate. The concept wasn't quite clear in his head yet, but he knew a soulmate was someone you were supposed to always have in your life. And he knew Mikey was a constant fixture, he had to be. He didn't know what he'd do if he didn't have Mikey. Mikey wasn't old enough to understand that they were soulmates yet. But that didn't matter, he could wait.
Mikey hits his teenage years in the blink of an eye. They don't sleep in the same bed anymore. Their parents had long put a stop to it, much to the displeasure of both children. But Mikey's grateful for it now. As he changes, he wants more and more privacy. He feels upset by always being "Gerard's baby brother." Gerard's begun realizing Mikey's not a kid anymore. He's not the same chubby baby that Gerard would hold all the time, not the same wobbly toddler who'd chase after him as soon as he could walk, not even the same skinny kid who hid behind him around new people.
He was quickly becoming a man and Gerard's own feelings had started developing too. It should've felt wrong when he stared at Mikey in the pool, water dripping over lean limbs. When he closed his eyes and jerked himself off to the mental image of Mikey. When Mikey would make a noise just close enough to a moan that it made him think. It should've, but it didn't. Mikey had always been his. Mikey wasn't quite old enough to be confronted with those feelings yet. But that didn't matter, he could wait.
The first time Gerard catches Mikey with a girl in his room, he's furious. He'd gone in to ask Mikey to come watch a movie with him and they'd been there on the bed. The girl underneath him and grasping at his hair as he rocked against her. He knew Mikey couldn't help it, his hormones were just getting the better of him. But this girl should know better, should know Mikey was his. She'd been blushing and avoiding Gerard's eyes when he sent her home.
As furious as he was, Mikey was even angrier. Gerard had never heard him scream and swear quite as much as he did that night. He'd accused Gerard of just being jealous because nobody liked him. And it was partially true, Gerard didn't keep any friends, much less a partner. But that was because he didn't need to. He had Mikey and nobody else would ever be Mikey. He didn't bother yelling back, just told Mikey he'd get it when he was older and left his room. Mikey hadn't grown up enough to realize he was Gerard's yet. But that didn't matter, he could wait.
