Recent portrait commission by @blewisarts ⚡️ 16" x 20" acrylic on canvas portrait. Ive been working on this for the past two weeks now and it's finally finished. This is the first traditional painting I've done in almost a year and I enjoyed every bit of the process. I've been so caught up with the convenience of digital art that I forgot how much I love to paint. ******************** The 44th United States Colored Troops Regiment were an Army of Union Soldiers out of my home town Chattanooga, TN consisting of over 3,000 soldiers. I learned so much during the process of this painting. Outside of the movie Glory, you rarely hear of African Americans in the civil war, let alone ones who fought in Tennessee. The First South Carolina Volunteers was a #unionarmy #regiment during the #civilwar . It was composed of escaped slaves from #southcarolina & #florida . There had been previous attempts to form black units in #neworleans & #kansas but they were not officially recognized. The #54thmassachusettsvolunteerinfantry whose exploits are memorialized in the film Glory was formed afterwards and drew from free northern blacks.
