Christian Siriano X Unisom

This year I had the pleasure of filming part of this Met Gala Sleeping Beauties campaign featuring Christian Siriano for Unisom. The campaign won Social Media Campaign of the Year at the 2024 Healthcare Marketing Impact Awards presented by Modern Healthcare and Ad Age. Thanks to Shane LaVancher, The Martin Agency, and Lippe Taylor for the opportunity. Congrats to The Martin Agency and everyone that worked on this campaign!

This year I also filmed part of a documentary feature film and was a director of photography on a true crime TV series. I’m grateful for these projects and am looking forward to what 2025 will bring. Happy New Year!

Unisom

Ingredient: Doxylamine succinate, diphenhydramine hydrochloride, acetaminophen.

Dosage Form:

Unisom Sleeptabs: Each tablet contains 25 mg doxylamine succinate.

Unisom PM Sleeptabs and Sleepgels: Each dose contains 50 mg diphenhydramine HCl.

Unisom Sleepmelts and Sleepminis: Each dose contains 25 mg diphenhydramine HCl.

Unisom Liquid: Each 30 mL contains 50 mg diphenhydramine.

Unisom PM Pain SleepCaps: Each capsule contains 325 mg acetaminophen and 50 mg diphenhydramine HCl.

FDA Indication/Dosages:

For the use as a sleeping aid to help induce drowsiness: One at bedtime as needed. Take 15 minutes prior to retiring.

Pharmacology: Doxylamine and diphenhydramine are antihistamines that compete with histamine at H1 receptor sires. They both cross the blood brain barrier and cause significant drowsiness. Usually an adverse effect, in sleeping aids, the drowsiness becomes the therapeutic effect.

Evaluation: Insomnia is defined as an inability to sleep. Insomnia can actually be divided into three different types: difficulty in falling asleep, frequent awakenings, and early awakening. Patients complaining of difficulty in falling asleep are candidates for over-the-counter sleep aids. Difficulty in falling asleep can be caused by emotional stress, a change in daily rhythm, or the use of stimulants. Some patients fall into a pattern of stimulant use during the day and sleep aids in the evening. This practice should be discouraged.

Contraindications/Precautions: May cause excitability in children. Do not use in children under 12 years of age except under the supervision of a physician. Do not use in patients with asthma, glaucoma, or difficulty in urination due to enlarged prostate gland unless under the direction of a physician. CNS depression is increased when used with alcohol and other CNS depressants. Pregnancy Category B.

Adverse Effects: May cause dry mouth. Some patients, especially the young and the elderly, may exhibit excitation instead of drowsiness.

Patient Consultation:

Ask the patient about their medical history including asthma, glaucoma, and enlarged prostate gland (males).

Ask how long the symptoms have been present and if previous therapy has been successful.

This product will cause drowsiness. Avoid drinking alcohol or engaging in activities that demand alertness.

Recommend that the patient stop use after 3 days to determine if additional treatment is necessary.
