That letter to the unknown friend was heartbreaking because it reminded me of my own heartache, caused by probably a like-minded fellow who pretended to be a close friend to me, for a short while, and yet who benefited from my friendship tremendously. Words can't do justice to the harm he caused me: he basically used and dumped me as a friend, knowing fully well I had feelings for him. I did so much for him when we were friends, that it would not be a stretch to say I gave him the moon, but I was treated as less than dirt. Now, that he seems to be in distress, I ravish in it. Tell me, does it make me a cruel unfeeling person? I was awfully hurt and cannot forgive his betrayal, distancing himself from me for no reasons other than I was not worth his time when he no longer needed anything from me. I don't want to be a bitter and negative person, but I cannot hide my feelings of utter resentment and sheer disgust of such people. I will not let him use me again. But unlike you, it goes further than that with me: I wish for him to suffer for the rest of his life. My revenge is in the knowing that he will never be happy. Does that make me a rotten soul? I believe in ripping what one sows. He inflicted me with so much sadness, self doubt, loneliness, just nothingness. It should not be surprising I harbor hard feelings but I am disappointed in myself: I wish I could be less judgemental with the awful humans that plague this earth. It's not my place to fix the wicked. Just wanted to stop by and give you my sympathy and care from a total stranger. Sorry that you had a shitty friend - been there and it HURTS.
Dear, Anon,
Firstly I truly appreciate the sympathy and care, as while writing it out did help express the pain I knew otherwise I'd spend days internalized and overthinking. I also realized I had to delete it because well it's hard sharing personal things that affect and feeling even more like a void for so few ever truly stop to say a kind word to another. I'm used to solitude and isolation nevertheless as a human being I do crave connection with other human beings. So thank you for your kindness and regards.
To answer your questions, being that I can understand your pain then I don't think you entirely heartless or a rotten soul. The fact that aside from wishing to distance yourself that you furthermore wish to seek revenge for the pain suffered does not make you cruel. How many individuals in history or film have been seen as heroic respectful individuals yet they sought their own justice and relished in those who wronged them feeling the same anguish.
I would say there are several such individuals, be they fictional or non fictional. It is a human characteristic to want justice upheld, some individuals value it more than others. There is a line between justice and revenge or vendetta However, much like the practice of law/lawyers may uphold justice under the articles of law yet it can be found lacking when examined by the common place individual for although there are precidets, loopholes are always found and corruption does exist.
Morality does not always alline with judicial process either hence why those who break the law and are guilty can be found otherwise in a court of law.
As you have mentioned you believe that he reaps what he sows, this ideology of working hard which will lead to reward or in this case the folly one's ways will bring about misfortune is an inherently taught in countless literature and fables are an excellent source of this.
What defines rotten, evil ? To some it is subjective to others it's clearly defined. I think I can safely say no you do not have rotten soul because you find yourself wishing this. To be rotten is to be devoid of all humanity, it would not feel pain, it would not care for questioning it's own character rather it would only seek it's own personal desires above all else.
The fact that you seek to be less judgemental is not a bad thing nor does it have to signify you stop harboring thoughts of him receiving karma for the hurt you felt from him. I think rather it is a way to wish to let go of those feelings, the disappointment in yourself, the loss of belief of goodwill of the human beings and I'm no expert so I apologize if this long winded reply offers no solace or pragmatic solutions.
I can only say that I've learned you can accept something while simultaneously acknowledging a difference of opinion and it is through this process one can find growth. You can acknowledge that you wish to be less judgemental and to find hope in humanity. While accepting that as you are now, those feelings are not to be ignored, you have a strong sense of self and justice this is to be praised.
You can work towards being less judgemental or rather finding which things to allow your mind to be judgemental on and the rest work on letting go as way to find some semblance of peace and happiness in every day life.
I'm not saying you have to forgive him, rather be gentle towards yourself, acknowledge the feelings you have and if you wish strive to be above your emotions, to not allow that which you cannot control cause you internal bitterness.
I feel like I'm becoming too preachy as I struggle with mastering self awareness, growth and have very many imperfections.
I'll leave with this final advice, study stoicism and other philosophies of psychology as you may find the theories presented helpful.
Also I personally found Newel of Knowledge on YouTube's philosophical insights to be interesting they are not of classic stoicism as rather focus on other aspects and take from other theories about life, struggles and inner self. I did find that it's useful to listen to enlightened individuals that can explain concepts in a very gentle manner so majority can grasp understanding to be helpful when one is trying to work out things about one's own self.
I hope this helps in some way, or is as comforting as freshly baked chocolate chip cookies with a glass of milk, that speak to familiarness, that you are not alone nor are you some version of devil hearted individual because of your inner thoughts.
Sincerely answered and wishing you all the best in the future.
Plant Update - Identified!
the weed in with my Aloe Plant? it's Creeping Charlie! it's a ground ivy that my parents have around their house which means that it's probably been sitting dormant in the soil for over a year
the absolute funniest part is that it popped up this summer around when roe v. wade was overturned and, according to google, Charlie here is an abortifacient. the universe really said "here are some options for you babe" and i just think that's great lmao
Meet the Plant - Unknown
Plant: Unknown Friend
Acquired: unknown
Height: 6 Inches in pot, 15 Inches elongated
Current Problems: is literally unidentified
look, i've had the aloe this plant is sharing a pot with for three years at this point and the thing popped up this summer. i have no clue how it got there or what it is, my phone won't identify it for some reason. whatever it is, i'm not getting rid of it just yet (and i may be putting off repotting the aloe until i can find out)
Inspiration “Authentic inspiration always entails an inner upheaval. It pierces the soul like an arrow in wounding it and in making it experience that profound emotion which is a synthesis of sorrow and joy. The symbol of the Rose Cross – a cross from the centre of which a rose blossoms out – renders the essence of the experience of inspiration in the best way that I know. The Rose Cross expresses the mystery of tears, i.e. that of inspiration, with force and clarity. It portrays the joy of sorrow and the sorrow of joy, which together comprise inspiration” * “Dear Unknown Friend, say to yourself that you know nothing, and at the same time say to yourself that you are able to know everything, and – armed with this healthy humility and this healthy presumption of children– immerse yourself in the pure and strengthening element of the "thinking together” of inspiration! May the winged Angel be present in this enterprise of yours, and may he hold the two vases from which inspiration will pour !“ from Meditations on the Tarot Letter XIV Temperance

The alley was gloomy in the night when villain followed the stranger, who seemed to know they were there. "Why are you here?" Villain decided to say and come out from the shadows. "No reason at all" the stranger answered calmly. Villain had seen the stranger looking dor something, knew that behavior already. "If you are looking for hero, they left already." Villain lied, knew they were hiding somewhere. "Disappointing" the stranger analyzed villain as they run forward to hit them hard. But they grabbed their fist and finished the fight before it had begun. "You didn't kill them then?" Villain tried in vain to get their arm back, decided to not freak out. "I scared them off." The stranger pulled villain back, "did you now?" They didn't seem to believe it, "let's make a deal. I tell you about hero and you tell me where they are." Villain realized this stranger wasn't interested in fighting the. "I don't know their location" villain said and realized hero maybe didn't even take their advice. "Liar" the stranger exclaimed and villain wondered if it was time to leave. "But I give you a chance to change your mind. Come on" the stranger walked out of the alley and on the empty main street. Outside of the city the stranger opened up an old bunker, it looked like someone had been living there. Hero...? "Is it a secret?" "You tell me" the stranger commented. "What did hero say?" Villain took a good look around heros former hiding place. "They don't remember much" villain admitted and didn't trust the stranger. But they were surprised, "really? Strange..." That was a genuine reaction and not a smug smile. "You don't have anything to with that?" They shook their head, "I don't see the point of erasing their memory." They took a drawing, a map over the city, and was it escape routes and hiding spots crossed over? "Maybe they hit their head or something." "So what happened?" The stranger went to sit on what had to be heros bed. "I'll start from the beginning." They didn't meet villain eyes, they looked past them. "Ten years ago, hero carried a lot of hate in their heart. Planned a 'masterplan'. But at one point realized they needed help." "Help?" They tried to see what the stranger saw but didn't. "In return of being our experiment we promised to help with their revenge." The strangers smug smile was replaced by worry. "Of course we lied, it was the opportunity to try out our theory. They escaped when the truth was clear." Villain tried to understand and kind of did. The temptation of revenge, "how did they know?" "We became friends at one point, then I had to tell them" the stranger said, then they rose up. "Is that hero I hear?" Villain turned to see hero, angry, or maybe afraid. "Is this a trap? Or maybe a lie?" "Neither, I have been covering your tracks for years now." The stranger answered, "but it won't help for long." "Why should I trust you?" The stranger's smirk told them there wasn't a reason. "It sucks not aging, stay at the same age for how long? No one knows." Villain was tense and ready to defende hero if needed. Then the stranger kept going, "if you had gone to phase two it wouldn't have happened. I want to help you with that." Hero didn't go closer and neither did the stranger. They got the same black smoke as hero did, "you got powers too?" Villain couldn't believe it. "I willingly did it to gain back their trust." The stranger played with the smoke, which changed colors. "I wanted to save you hero, if I only knew how many years it would take." Hero didn't move or say anything. Same for villain, who highly distrusted this stranger. "Your family is still alive by the way. Mother, father and your sibling got two kids. Both growing up with stories about you." This stranger had hero cornered and villain saw it in their eyes. "Hero, are you okay?" Villain walked to hero and it was tears. For real this time. "I don't want to live like this anymore. I miss them..." "I know... I can help you." The stranger smoothly said and slowly walked forward. "You won't believe our theory, villain." They meet the stone-cold eyes without fear. "Probably not" villain just said. "Say my name, my real name" hero suddenly asked the stranger. Would they finally hear their real name? The stranger didn't stop, but they got confused. "Why?" "No one then I have said then me for years" hero suddenly embraced villain. "And I kind of forgot again." The stranger stroke their hair back. "Right, [heros real name]. Loneliness has driven mad." They observed and maybe it was going to be better. "The others want you dead. I can free you from this curse and tell them you're dead." Villain had seen how soft they were, but they didn't trust them. "How can we believe you?" They asked what hero had asked only minutes ago, but so much had changed since then. "This could still be a trap, hero." Hero stayed silent until they said something. "Do it!" "What?!" Villain let go of hero, they did just agreed with the stranger. The stranger bowed, "as you wish." Villain left the bunker and didn't care if hero slowly followed them.
