Devotional Posting for Takyjei // No. 1
Hi hi
This post is going to be an introduction post about my conpan god, Takyjei, f.k.a. Tirijeiscoci. By the way, yes I am @/awolfwandering42 on Amino.
(Disclaimers: There is no historical records of a deity ever going by this name so therefore take everything I say with a grain of salt. These thoughts may not even be divinely inspired though I would like them to be. Also you can contact Takyjei at any time, I am not the end all be all authority on him, he is. You are also free to offer to him at any time, just keep in mind he just likes offerings and is very opposed to being worshipped, though if he indicates with you that he wants worship I am not going to stop you.)
So Takyjei actually usually takes on two distinct forms for me, one being the crowned hunter and the other being the nurturing bear. In crowned hunter form he is a humanoid figure with a crown of golden antlers. His main color in this form is green. This form has slightly tanned pale skin with long wavy black hair, a green cloak, lots of leather accessories, a white or cream button up shirt, brown pants, and armored shoes. He is always absolutely adorned in jewels in this form, calling back to original title I had for him which is the ‘hunter god’. His other form, the nurturing bear, is a brown colored bear arms that are like growing young trees.
For he exists as a god of cycles he presides over life and death. He also exists as a god who is very kind and nurturing but can and will destroy if needed. He’s a god of necessity, kind but also fair. A god of forests, both the living and the dead. He is one of eight gods born from the shards of a jealous god, though he does not maintain contact with the other seven. Of those he is a god of the created/physical earth, for all the other ones are gods that pertain to the other elements, half of the physical as Takyjei is, the other half of the void.
He was recommended to me by my Agathos Daimon/guardian spirit, Alexios/Alexei. It has been a thing since the beginning of my practice that I wanted to contact unknown gods. Takyjei was the perfect candidate for such a thing so that’s how my relationship with him started. He made it clear from the beginning of our relationship that he does not enjoy being worshipped, by me at least. Though he enjoys the company and the gifts. There is also this little language thing he made that goes along with a whole magic system but I have not taken the time to learn most of it yet but I’ll update the blog as it happens. He’s very peaceful and my familiars like him so that’s a good sign. Next post will hopefully be about his myths !!
Until next time,
Dylan
The Unknown Gods (1980) is Judges Guild’s follow up to the recently released Deities & Demigods (and one of the last JG products to be allowed to call itself an official D&D product). It’s basically a collection of really odd gods that…well, if these were real gods in a pantheon, I kind of see most of them getting shoved in a locker a lot, basically. There’s lots of early-days-of-RPGs DIY charm here tho, even if the subject matter is a little thin. Cool improvement over Deities & Demigods stat blocks, though: the addition of a d6 disposition table. Always nice to know what kind of mood divine beings are in.
The art is kind of amazing. I always enjoy Jennell Jaquays art, but the way things are colored in this one brings it to a different level. There is color, both on the cover and inside, but it is limited to blue and red, and they are always globby and misaligned in a parody of 3D, like a Bazooka Joe comic. You can see how red ink sometimes intentionally gets laid on top of blue ink to make purple. I don’t know a ton about screen printing, but this…doesn’t seem like the way you do it? It feels way more handmade than mechanical, at the very least, and I dig it for that. I should also mention that Judges Guild used some particularly crap paperstock in these years, just one step above newsprint. If you remember the grey sort of low quality “sketch pads” you’d get to draw on with crayons as a kid, you’d be in the ballpark of what these things are printed on. I feel like it is a small miracle that they haven’t all turned to yellow, acidic dust.
Anyway, The Unknown Gods is the direct inspiration for Petty Gods, a massive collaborative project collecting scads of weird user-submitted gods. That book is a real highlight of the OSR movement for me and a lovely iteration on the concept of a god book.
Offended gods
Just a few minutes ago I was thinking about how Tanim and Daren, my strange and unknown gods, have become totally silent. I was thinking that they don't even set off our fire alarms anymore, which was their favorite prank, so maybe they're really gone this time. Just... done with me.
Then I walked into my kitchen and smelled something burning. One of the big burners on our stove had somehow been turned on to the highest setting.
I HEAR YOU GUYS, OKAY? Don't need to burn my fucking house down.
Has anyone ever heard of offering emotions to a deity? The experience of joy, anger, euphoria, etc... and offering it up to a God?
I had a dream of an old god who forced people to worship. Not even worship itself but just the concept of a god and then fed off that energy, off of us. We tried to kill it but everyone who landed a hit on it threw themselves to death in the same way the others would worship. Then, while those around me had arms raised and spoke in tongues, I hit it with an arrow. Then i fell asleep. Then I woke up.
I know its name.
I dare not speak it for i wish not to give it presence in this world.
So a whole lot of things connected in my mind today.
Remember how i thought the Wild Lady had a second face, one more 'traditional' and, well, churchy?
TURNS OUT THEY'RE NOT THE SAME BEING THEY ARE TWO GODS AND THEY ARE IN LOVE
So how about that
Anyway I'm planning on calling Her the Lady of Light for the time being.
Other fun facts:
+the Wild Lady prefers being called God, the Lady of Light prefers being called Goddess
+if i had to simplify Their dominions, I would say the Wild Lady rules over the, well, wild. Forests, trees, animals, mountains, seas, etc... While the Lady of Light rules over civility. Churches, temples, cities, roads, people. You can't have one without the other and They always intersect, making the two of Them and Their connection vital to the fabric of the world
+the Wild Lady prefers offers of emotion, of deep animal reactions (so far, orgasms) while the Lady of Light prefers something more structured (prayers, chants, rituals)
The Wild Lady aesthetic. -also known as God, the Dark Lady, Lady of the Wild, Lady of the Wood, Lady of the Roots, or Her
