ANIME OF THE WEEK : Terror in Resonance
This week’s Anime of the Week is Terror in Resonance!! Check out my review below!
THE REVIEW
Terror in Resonance follows two main characters that go by the nickname Nine and Twelve as they perform a terrorist act on a Tokyo Government Facility. During the attack, Twelve discovers a high school girl named Lisa. Suffering through the draining emotional dependency from her mother, Lisa is desperate to find something worth living for. Both boys must decide whether to kill Lisa or have her become an accomplice. As the story continues you follow the young extremists & the police through an accelerating cat and mouse game, as well as finding out these boys story. Are they just terrorists or is there something more they want?
SOUNDTRACK
From the intro, to the background music to set the ambience, every part was beautifully composed. Not that I expect nothing less from Yoko Kanno, composer from the timeless classic Cowboy Bebop as well as Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Every song pulled at your heart strings, while still setting the tone of seriousness and compassion for each character. It’ll definitely be a present for your ears!
THE STORY
There won’t be any spoilers in this review, so don’t worry. As the story begins, it hooks you in with suspense and thrills. You’ll constantly be asking questions like, who are you? Why is that? Etc, however the deeper you get into the show, you’ll realize that the story grows a little confusing & meek. I found myself bored twiddling my thumbs, waiting for something else exciting to happen. Another blow to the plot were the secondary main characters, some were hard to relate to and down right weird. It was hard devising whether someone was a friend or foe. I will say as a positive, the main characters, had me worried, happy, nervous all at once. The story makes you develop compassion for each main character(Twelve, Nine, Lisa) placing you in a front row seat through their pain, thoughts, & ideas and before you know it, they will become a piece of your heart. Oh & did I mention it’s visually alluring. You will definitely see the influences by director Shinichiro Watanabe ( also known for his work in most eulogized anime of all time Cowboy Bebop, as well Space Dandy, and Samurai Champloo). From captivating colors, & brilliant scenery, I found myself in awe of the atmosphere.
OVERALL RATING
Terror in Resonance is a really good anime, despite it’s plot holes. When it’s good, its good and there’s no denying that this anime, was a product of Shinichiro Watanabe. I would recommend it. It is only one season with twelve epsiodes so if your looking for a short anime to just enjoy, it’s worth checking out. If not for the soundtrack but for the adrenalin rush you’ll have all throughout the show. If you can get through the dull moments you will be in for a unforgettable, emotionally ride. Whether your racing against the clock to find the next bomb, or falling love with the main characters antics, this anime will not disappoint.
