an unspiration to us all
This year, I bought myself an “unspirational” rip-off calendar. Every January 1 I see people posting inspirational and motivational quotes, listing resolutions and making plans and vowing that “this will be my year”. And I think if 2020 has taught me (us?) anything, it’s that sometimes the most important resolution is to just be. We had to cancel big plans and trips, ate bad and didn’t work out for months due to quarantine and stress, were stuck in our houses or working 80 hour weeks, and overall it’s been a traumatic year.
2021 is going to be about giving back to myself (ourselves?). That might look like clay masks and hot baths to some, Body Pump Bootcamp to others, and some of us might fall in the middle - a sip of water from one of my favorite tumblers, a smile at my unspirational calendar, using three heating pads at once, and reminding myself that I cannot have 6 layer dip for breakfast or else I will not feel well later.
2021 is a reminder that getting it right doesn’t mean big vacations, raises at work, or having wild successes. It’s about being here and living.
Happy 2021, y’all. Be kind to yourself.
