#repost • @mvrdv When we design large new buildings, can we create sustainable structures that sequester carbon while merging with the landscape? Our proposal for the Timber Headquarters would be the largest timber building in the world. A carbon-neutral building that stands 28 meters high, it is supported by a forest of 119 wood columns. This leaves the “forest floor” free and open to the public with a park and plaza that highlight the history of the site, while the office space lies in the "tree canopy" above. The complex is crowned by a roof-scape of native vegetation and a path system that gives visitors access to breathtaking views of the Neva River. With greenery both above and below, the building becomes part of the landscape, just as the landscape is part of the building.
