The outskirts of the Renaissance. Photos taken in different towns of the Urgell county (Ponent, Catalonia), by photographer Jordi Borràs, published in La Mira.

Western Catalonia (because this is what Ponent means, from the word pondre meaning “set”, as in “where the sun sets”) is a more rural area, inland and far away from the always busy Mediterranean sea. But none of this means that it was isolated nor that it didn’t, in its own way, follow the trends of the time.

With these photos, Jordi Borràs collects doors and windows of the Renaissance architecture of the area. Built in the 16th and 17th centuries, the anonymous builders combined the Renaissance style with remains from the Gothic style, as well as Classic influences.

It’s been a while since I’ve drawn this guy.

This is Urgell.

Urgell and Andorra had a lot of half siblings through their father, Iberia, however these two were full-blooded siblings. Since I want to make a series of comics exploring Andorra’s life. I knew I had to go back and redesign one of the most important characters in her life. I’m super happy with his updated design, it matches more now with the personality I have intended for him. He was a mature and serious warrior, but at the same time, a nurturing and loving brother who wanted nothing more than to protect his sister.

With time I’ll upload more members of the Iberian Family.

Also, I promise I’ll get to all the asks in my inbox soon. I just needed to catch up on commissions.
