I'm literally so mega pissed. What do you mean people's takeaway from this episode is, "oh wow Ult used to be such a jerk"??? Are you fucking kidding me? How are people STILL missing the total point of his character? I've gotten to the point where it would be impossible to defend him without literally just saying all I've already said but tldr: a kid character written like a kid character is not annoying. For fucks sake, they are a CHILD. Of course a homeless kid taken in by a total stranger he had no choice to grow up with is going to be moody and socially inept. Expecting Ult to be very well behaved despite his past is ridiculous.
Why is no one ever satisfied with Ult. Why the fuck do I have to break my own back defending a character who shouldn't need to be defended each damn time an episode comes out?? Why can NO ONE appreciate a good character??? Sorry if this is mega dramatic I'm just like deadass personally offended by the people who just refuse to understand him.
Hey so I'm going to yap about my blorbo so uh just ignore this I guess?? Also spoiler warning
Holy fuck they wrote Ult so well in this episode. The façade he always wears was completely strewn apart and defiled, exposing who he truly is -- who he tries his hardest to hide: a skittish kid who just doesn't want to be hurt or weak anymore.
Of course, I can imagine he's been in some pretty high risk battles before, but he was practically thrust into this one when a realization hits him: he *doesn't* know how this is going to turn out. And there *is* a possibility that they could all very well *die*. That fact clearly terrifies him.
Despite his itch to battle, I don't think he's the kind of kid to throw himself into something he knows is dangerous like this. It's for this reason that he's so terrified. Like that shit must have been even mildly traumatizing for him. The anime has been leading up to this moment, building up on his side plot of wanting to be in a high stakes battle...only for it to be much more than nor him or the viewers ever expected.
The reason he wasn't in sync with Roy as he usually is was because Roy is conditioned to this -- he's had his fair share of incredibly dangerous battles. Ult has not -- at least not to the same degree as Roy.
Aand that's why I think someone should give this kid a hug already. But those are my two cents or whatever.
ULT'S VOICE ACTRESS IS IN UMAMUSUME. YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS. SHES SUNG AND SHE SOUNDS JUST LIKE HIM HOLY FUCK.
IT EVEN SOUNDS LIKE SHE SAYS MEGA AT AROUND 0:51 IM TWEAKING OUT. ALL ULT FANS NEED TO SEE THIS RIGHT AWAY AND I WILL TAG PEOPLE. SORRY TO BUG Y'ALL BUT THIS IS LIFECHANGING
Ooc. More rant because I'm so mad I gave myself a migraine somehow
The people who hate Ult are so fucking funny to me. Like how the fuck do you miss the point of his character SO bad. It's tragic.
We've gotten like five or so episodes focused on Ult in comparison to the nineteenish episodes he's appeared in; even then, his plotline has been overshadowed by more pressing matters.
Before hating really any character, one should take the effort to psychoanalyze them first. Understand their motivations, their nature, and what has shaped them to turn out the way they have thus far. It doesn't have to be extreme trauma that made Ult the way he is. I've said this before but I'm going to say it as many times as I need to: there is more than one way to fuck up a kid.
A commonly used example to explain this is: A person drowning in a five foot pool is still suffering the same amount as a person drowning in a twenty foot deep pool, for example. It doesn't fucking matter how deep it is; they're still going to both die. This serves as a sort of metaphor for the fact that it doesn't matter how extreme a trauma has to be; minor things can affect people very badly, too.
By refusing to look at a character you dislike and taking them at face value, you not only refuse to acknowledge the effort put into their traits, you completely overlook them and therefore have no valid reason to actually dislike them. Think about it: this is a child, a child who has literally only ever been a mild nuisance; he hasn't done anything horribly wrong or said anything controversial.
Again, if you hate a character, you should at least have a valid reason to. I've asked many people for their reasoning on their dislikes of characters; I have never received a valid, actual argument for why said character deserves it. They're just "annoying", and that apparently makes them hateable. This is especially when it comes to children characters: god for-fucking-bid a kid acts like a kid. Oh no it's the end of the world.
And don't get me started on how unfair it is to not just the character but the WRITERS to scream on your socials about how underdeveloped a NEW CHARACTER is. Imagine saying you hate a character with about an hour total of screentime and a few minutes of actual lore. Like oh my goddddd. Wait like a few damn months for development before deciding you hate a fictional fucking twelve year old.
Finally got around to editing how I look in headspace and idk why I'm sharing this but whatever. Do with it what you will; punt him like football, draw him (PLEASE/lh), or ignore him. I really don't care
So there's this one pokemon server we're (aka me and my headmates) in. We joined in like in April I think?? Anyway whenever I try to talk there, one of two things happen: a) everyone absolutely ignores it and talks over it; or b) I slip up and say some sort of "controversial" opinion and get bashed on by everyone, leading our anger holder to front and piss everyone off. Now I definitely won't go around not taking accountability for something a headmate said, because it's still on all of us.
I want to tell this server how I feel but there are no vent channels; everything I say about feeling ignored gets perceived as a joke; I've been told not to "dog pile" whatever that means. I can't make an announcement or whatever because I'm not a mod and I HIGHLY doubt I'll be missed in a server of a hundred+ people; I don't think that highly of myself lmao. Plus there are some people I know in there who actively avoid me. Yay.
So I'm left with either muting the server to run away from our feelings, or to straight up leave and make the people who do notice my absence think that it's their fault. Needless to say, I'm pretty fucked.
I should clarify that I don't even want to leave, by the way. I've just felt like I needed to. I've never felt so invisible in a server before but that's mega cringe L ratio!!! Lol I'll cope by making a fool of myself for your entertainment
My formal apology to likodot discord for me being such a pick me 😭💀
