Hot take but, while the fans have pulled some bullshit regarding it, anyone else think the labeling of the backlash against Pokemon Sw/Sh’s lack of National Dex as “toxic fandom” is a way of trying to crush class consciousness of users against corporate bullshit by The Very Serious people the same way Extra Credits saying “Oh, games are too cheap to buy now, and that’s why they bilk you,” was?
Given that there’s evidence that Game Freak has the models on hand (Given that I recall that Sun & Moon’s models were explicitly designed for being future-proofed and reusable) and any issues fitting them in are due to, to my knowlege, them not knowing how to fucking do simple optimization and having some really fucking inefficient coding*, and Game Freak’s only doing it half-heartedly because The Pokemon Company’s finding them superfluous due to the money Pokemon Go’s raking in, there’s some bullshit here.
Hell, even Arlo; who I would not call a cynical muppet; says the way GF/TPC basically keeps removing features is to keep us from expecting more of them! That is horseshit, and the idea that pushing back against that horseshit is an inherent “entitlement” and a gateway to toxicity feels like the professional class protecting their own.
Like, remember when fans were called “toxic” for pushing against the EA-rushed Mass Effect 3 ending. Which, it didn't fucking help that part of that was due to explicit reactionaries leeching onto that like the parasites they are**, but given what happened with Andromeda and Anthem, I think there maybe, just maybe may have been a fucking point there.

**Which, TBH, I think that’s why the Very Serious People are so glib about speaking against user-based class-consciousness, because of how the Reactionary Dickheads appropriated the talking points of class consciousness to be horrible and act as attack dogs for the AAA companies and basically tainted them (As Caseyexplosion rightly talked about on Twitter); but that’s its own discussion.
