GOOD AFTERNOON! i have an essay for religion and has to do with Christianity & LGBT. i was wondering where i can find information on these 2 topic together? would it be in the religion section at library? and if so where is that because scott library soooo big :$ and i hardly ever used the library :| only online stuff. how do i sign out a book :$ this is embrassing i feel sooo lost :$ thanksss!!
Here’s my guide to the library (this primarily focuses on Scott, but it will work for others as well)
Step 1: go to library.yorku.ca and look at the gray bar which says keyword etc. right under that gray bar will be a smaller link which says “advanced search” click that.
Step 2: In the keywords that open up, type in Christianity, then in the row under it (the “and” row) type in LGBTQ, homosexuality, transsexuality and any other keywords linked to the LGBTQ+ spectrum. Make sure that all the keywords linked together are in the same row (it should say or in between the words.) This is how mine looks.
Step 3: Apply any other relevant filters such as year of publication, whether you’re looking for books, journals etc.
Step 4: Select a book, journal etc. which you think is relevant.
Step 5: Note down the call number for the book. It should be listed within the holdings section (here’s an example)
Step 6: Click the little map icon where it says Scott Stacks and a small window will pop up telling you which floor the book is on. It’ll also include a map which you may wanna remember. In this case, you would go to the BL —> DS section to find your book. If you can’t remember the map don’t worry, once you get to the floor the book shelves are labelled with this information so you just have to walk around to find the right set of shelves.
Step 7: Once you’ve found your book, go down to the first floor main area where the exit/entrance is. There are two options for checking out a book: The best one is to go to the little self-check out kiosks (they look like computer screens mounted on a tiny desk) right in front of the escalators (through the doors) and follow the screen instructions. The other option is to go to the circulation desk (right next to the kiosks), and ask the person there to check it out for you.
That’s it! Two other notes; You’ll need your YU card to check out a book, and that you can check the due date etc. of the book on the library website in the Check My Account Option.
