I was recently gifted a zip-off corduroy skirt/belt, and realized how customizable this kind of article of clothing can be.  So I started adding pockets and tool holders and loops to it.  All over.  Pockets everywhere.  So now it’s a utili-kilt!

This is why you save old jeans, by the way: the pockets are already shaped and hemmed!

It’s my amazingly hot butch wife’s birthday today but it’s almost a happy birthday to me since I got her a utilikilt for her birthday, and she actually tried it on. Not that she asked for it or really wanted it, but I sure as heck wanted to SEE her in it!!!

Been feeling kind of in a rut with my crafting lately... decided I need to make something for myself and it needed to be a sewing project. One of the most unexpectedly and wonderfully affirming things I have done for myself recently was buy a Utilikilt. Like, listen you guys, we know gender is a spectrum and just like with my sexuality I always knew I was skewed on there somewhere. More than a tomboy, not enough to want to change my pronouns, but in some weird indefinable space in there. I have my fem moments where enjoy wearing more than just eyeliner and even feel good in a dress now and then, but for the most part dresses and skirts repulse me and having to wear a skirt while my dragon tattoo healed sucked. And yet...I enjoyed getting to wear something other than jeans.

So what did I do? I got a kilt, a man's skirt, and I can't even describe how RIGHT it feels. Total strangers have told me on multiple occations now how good it looks and how much they like it on me and how much I'm rocking it and for the first time in a very long time I feel comfortable in my own skin. Like, surprisingly so. I didn't know that this was what I needed but it was, on so many levels. I'm just so thrilled to feel good.

So thanks, Utilikilt, for so unexpectedly changing my life. :D
