UTSA Roadrunners Softball
i made a zine with my student org! body of mine is a compilation of essays, poems, and works of art centered on the experiences of gender minorities, namely transgender people and women. it was put together as a part of a semester-long trans rights and bodily autonomy campaign and given out for free on campus. now it's also online! you can read it as a pdf or as a digital flipbook on itch.io
i contributed a lot of design work and some original art. i'm ezra castle in the credits :)

psa: if you (like me) are a chronic empath, socially anxious, introverted, neurodivergent, or otherwise sensitive to other people, this is for you.
if you consistently feel very drained after having a conversation with a particular person or group of people (like you talked too much or said the wrong things), then it's not you, it’s probably them. there’s something they’re doing to affect your self-esteem. ask yourself: are they implicitly condescending? tactless? dismissive towards your ideas? are their jokes mean? do they always regard you with subtle dissapointment, like you constantly need to be advocating for yourself? I can guarantee this, you’ll find something in their conversational style that’s troubling you.
I am so lucky to have found people who are genuinely so kind, tactful, welcoming, valudating, inclusive, and warm. the several coinciding bad circumstances in my life (transferring to a bigger university, moving out, interpersonal drama, identity-crisis, isolation, poor mental health) would have destroyed me if it were not for them. expressing kindness is a skill; kindness only on the inside isn’t enough. dismissing identity-based experiences is not okay. it took me way too long to figure this out. if you are like me, I hope that you can identify this and seek out and surround yourself with people good for your mental well-being. I promise you, they exist.
