monster in the mirror–*
@uwtaemin
...a game of predator turned prey.
for all the hatred kangjoon holds for vampires, for all the anger he harbors in his heart, there is fear. perhaps it doesn’t show itself in the same way it used to, back when kangjoon’s face was still soft and his bared held no callouses, but it is there. it is the near hysteria that pulls him out of his nightmares and it is the wild light in his eyes when he makes a kill.
he owes it all to someone whose faceless figure has haunted him, plagued him, since childhood. kangjoon has killed countless vampires in search of this particular monster, but to no avail. in reality, he knows that it’s a near impossible feat- finding a vampire who he himself never saw- but the little voice at the back of his mind assures him that demons never leave anything unfinished, and he’d be damned if he’d be the one hunted down.
so another night, another hunt. whether he finds the bastard tonight or not, it’s not as though there won’t be other vampires out and about, murdering other people’s families. besides, if anything, he can consider it a process of elimination.
tonight, he’s found himself scouting out a seedier part of the city. the people who can’t afford nice security measures and the people who value their fix more than their life always make for easy targets- and kangjoon supposes he benefits from their misfortune. even amidst the distinct bustle of a sleeping city, there’s something eerie about the static silence that rests beneath it all.
it doesn’t take kangjoon long to figure out why.
some vampires, he’s found, are simply beyond the point of carelessness- even reckless is too nice of a term. they are the ones who hunt for sport rather than sustenance. kangjoon supposes he could call it poor table manners, seeing as how they play with their food in such a way. he wishes it were a surprise to see one such vampire perched so elegantly, mere feet away.
even as a seasoned hunter, the feral look in those dead eyes never fail to send a white hot flash of discomfort down his spine.
“how well suited you are here, garbage amongst garbage. you fuckers always did like slinking about in the shadows, didn’t you?”
