“I’d hardly call it surprising; I’m tougher than I look.” He liked to think he looked pretty tough to begin with, but Xion knew the truth of how soft he could be. He’d probably never seem tough to her.

Honestly, though, she was probably referring more to the fact that he existed rather than the fact that he’d survived the battle. “Yeah, I guess it is kind of different from how it’s been for the last... I don’t even know how long.” At least he knew he had a heart now, his own, with his own feelings and memories to fill it. “It’s good to be back, and it’s really good to see you again.”

"I guess we can finally go to the beach huh? Took awhile but, you kept your promise." Xion murmured with a shy smile on her lips.

“Yeah...” Roxas nodded with a soft grin of his own. “It’s a little hard to believe, after everything we’ve been through. Still, this is pretty great. And we don’t even have to worry about carrying out any missions anymore!” This end was everything he dreamed it would be and more. All the people who showed up were unexpected, but he couldn’t find himself complaining. The gang from Twilight Town, even Isa... Even if the picture wasn’t quite complete, he was happy. Really, truly happy for the first time in recent memory.

“Xion... I really missed you. Now we’re back, it’s kind of a miracle. Don’t you think?” Roxas really hoped she was as happy as he was... To him, this was as close to ideal as they could get. “Being here with you... and Axel, too, of course,” he added bashfully. “I’m just glad we get the chance to be here. And we can come and go as we please.”

“You were worried? I’m sorry...” Xion sat up slowly so as not to make herself dizzy. She still felt tired, but that was probably due to her having slept for so long. “I’m up now.” Oddly enough, she felt guilty for causing him grief. “How long have you been here? I guess I should thank you for watching over me.”

Perish the thought of battling with the Heartless again. After fighting them day after day for so long, Xion had grown more than weary. It wasn’t her favorite pastime, but it was all she was good for, was it not? Being a Keyblade wielder made her special, in theory, but to her all it meant was that she could only do one thing. That one thing, which she wasn’t even that good at to begin with... Even as she whacked away at the monsters with her weapon, there was a soft voice in the back of her head telling her that she had to do more, useless puppet. She’d failed as a member of the Organization. Even though she knew now that it didn’t matter, the harsh words of her superiors still stung.

Among the dark creatures, Xion recognized one form that resembled something human. “Sora!” She called out to him, hoping that he was alright. Dark power facing darkness... Sora could easily fight in this form, almost too strong when dealing blows, but it took time for him to come to his senses afterward. “Sora, I’ll take care of this!” Instantly, she leaped into action to try to reach him. Few Heartless remained around him; the light power of the Keyblade was what drew them in, as far as she understood. Would the Heartless target her more than him?

Roxas was shocked by the answer he got. “Someone following you?” he repeated. “Are you sure you don’t want me to come get you? You’re not alone, are you?” She probably was, now that he thought of it. While he was sure that the town was relatively safe, he wasn’t comfortable with the thought of leaving her to fend for herself. “I’m at the back alley by Market Street... I’ll meet you somewhere nearby, okay?” He grabbed a Struggle bat, just in case, as he left.

“Long time, no see.” When Roxas had last met Namine, it was a struggle. There just wasn’t enough time to talk back then, with Sora having to wake up. It seemed miraculous that they had this chance now, though he believed he finally understood what was happening to him. Granted, that was only because it had already happened, but it all made sense. “How’ve you been, Namine?” 

For him, it had been stifling to be part of another person, to not be able to do anything for himself, but maybe Namine had made peace with Kairi. Now that it was over, though, he wasn’t entirely sure what to do. He didn’t exactly have a home to return to, seeing as the Twilight Town he lived in was an illusion. At least he still had some of his friends to turn to.

“So, you’re clearly not Sora,” Roxas stated, though the resemblance was uncanny. It was just... unlike Sora, this person had so much dark energy. Not to mention he was dressed kind of weird, too. Roxas put himself on guard, just in case. “Who are you?” Sora’s heart was a strange place; Roxas distantly remembered the time he spent there, as if he were dreaming. He knew better than to venture into the darkest corners, but he had a feeling that there was someone else there.

“I wish I knew what was going on!” Roxas said, frustrated. “How do you look so much like him? It’s strange...”

“Huh?” It was like looking in a mirror. A really weird mirror that didn’t reflect quite right, but Roxas could swear he was dreaming or something. “You’re... me? No...” It couldn’t be. He wore different clothes, for starters, like armor. Roxas had never worn anything like that, nor had he had to. Then again, his memories had been pretty messed up, having two sets of them for the same stretch of time.

But if the person before him wasn’t himself, he had to ask. “Who are you?” He had to be sure. If it were a different person, though, how did he look so much like him? Another mystery to solve... Great.
