Thank you for 58 years of #amplification, little #TungSol #12AX7! I had to replace the #preamp tube in my 1959 #Fender #Princeton, and found that the #tube was (or at least *probably* was) the original tube that came with the #amp. I'm pretty sure the code "3225939" (see bottom left photo), means "made by Tung Sol" (manufacturer code 322) in the 39th week (the "39" in "5939") of 1959 (the "59" in "5939") The #amp's tube chart has the code "IG" stamped on it, which means it was made in July of 1959. The 39th week of '59 was the week of September 21st, so the timing is close enough to assume the tube is original to the amp. Anyhoo: this tube still works, which boggles my mind because growing up I was led to believe that tubes were easily prone to failure, yet several of the #tubes in my #vintageamps are still working well after 50 years of service. This little guy started making some sporadic hissing noise, so I replaced him with another TungSol 12AX7. However the new one wasn't made in the #USA like the #vintage one. It was made in #Russia! This conjures up so many thoughts of cold war irony. No amp maker in 1959 was buying #Russian #vacuumtubes...I guarantee it!
