serge gainsbourg as marquis de sade in the french three-piece téléfilm valmy (1967), by jean chérasse and abel gance.
unfortunately this trilogy seems to be rather obscure and lost, as i couldn't find any of its episodes to stream.

I have issues finding (reliable) sources on the timeline of the battle of Valmy and the abolition of the monarchy so perhaps you can help. Not in terms of dates but cause and effect - did the victory have much/any influence on it? (As in, would the abolition happen even without it). Do you happen to know/ are there good sources discussing this?
Salut, Jefflion! I'm sorry I didn't answer this earlier, but tumblr didn't show me I had a message. The simple answer is that Valmy really can't have had an influence on the abolition of the monarchy, because the victory can't have been known about in Paris in time. In this case, the dates solve the question of cause and effect, since Valmy took place on 20 September and the monarchy was officially abolished by the Convention the next day. Moreover, it wasn't necessarily immediately regarded as the great victory it's passed on to posterity as, as discussed in a recent article.
