Why couldn't I have hyper fixated on literally any other historical figure
The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that The Crimson Court, the Darkest Dungeon DLC, is based on 120 Days of Sodom. In a game filled with costumes from different eras, this place is entirely monster versions of pre-revolutionary French aristocracy. The plot is "there was a big sex-murder orgy but one person was a vampire and now the whole place is nothing but very unsexy vampires in French courtly garb."
That's nuts. I mean, it works well, I love the game, but whose idea was that? How did they pitch it?
"Who knows, maybe de Sade would've enjoyed the weird pervert stories I write, too."
Aww that's a sweet sentiment 🥲
You know, although I don't personally enjoy the stuff by de Sade I've tried reading, I always think - WOW, now there's a guy who was PASSIONATE about writing this stuff.
Have you ever been so into your hardcore fucked up darkfic that you hand-wrote it on a 40ft long scroll made up of pieces of scrap paper while you were imprisoned? lol fukin legend tbh
"The books and essays on Sade are crusading, romanticizing, mystifying in the literal sense (that is, intentionally perplexing to the mind). Infused with a missionary passion, they boil down to this: Sade died for you—for all the sexual crimes you have committed, for all the sexual crimes you want to commit, for every sexual crime you can imagine committing. Sade suffered because he did what you want to do; he was imprisoned as you might be imprisoned. The “you” is masculine."

Based on recent discoveries
hot take one: the value found in the marquis de sade’s writing is inseparable from his crimes
hot take two: you can acknowledge that his writing holds value while not condoning his crimes
On marquis de Sade
I've seen so much more content on TikTok regarding Marquis de Sade, I'm totally supportive for the idea of making historical figures even more popular, considering de Sade has never been that niche and having tons of popularity in his time for his philosophy and ideologies. But can we keep in mind he was still a convicted rapist and child rapist 😭
