In Valsesia
Peace upon the mountains
Musashi said that “The only reason a warrior is alive is to fight, and the only reason a warrior fights is to win” - This may sound preposterous in our times and environment, but this is exactly what makes a swordsman better, and not only him, also the people around him which will greatly benefit from the luck of training with such a strong willed opponent. While being respectful to our sparring partner, we should always strive to overcome him with out tactics and technique. A good swordsman which faces us doing its best is a gift, even if we lose every bout because of this. Losing means frustration, but it’s thanks to frustration that we grow. Sometimes people finds hard to accept this dichotomy, club mates a second before, rivals the second after, and once I was one of those. People even gets upset sometimes, because it’s always hard to accept defeat and learn from it without trying to justify our shortcomings in some stupid way. But it’s extremely important to do so to improve and get better. As I told to my students once, every fencer is alone on its path, but luckily we are alone together. #historicaleuropeanmartialarts #swordfighting #hema #training #swordsman #swordsmanship #historicalfencing #longsword #training #sparring #rivals #friends #fencer #valsesia #theswordsmanofthedale https://www.instagram.com/p/CXyrwqgN59O/?utm_medium=tumblr
Canon EOS 250D Taken on 07/01/2022. * Nestled deep in the winding valley Valsesia in northern Piedmont is Rusa, a tiny mountain hamlet where you can admire the unspoiled countryside. Rusa sparkles thanks to its hidden gems, notably the Roman bridge and the church with its colourful façade. Wherever I turned, the mountains were always in sight!
