How long has V been locked away, what has he missed

What is the twins relationship like

Anxciet is the main pairing, are there any side pairings?

How does Janus react to the whole "oh yeah vampires are real" thing

Were any of the vamps around for any big historical events

Were any of the vamps big historical figures

Do they end up going to highschool/uni with the humans

What does everyone look like

Do any of them have really strong opinions about something useless (eg. pineapple on pizza, a certain colour, double denim, etc)

Virgil became a Vampire sometime in the 17/1800s?? Logan is from around the 1500s, and Patton claims he lost count a long time ago.(Patton’s probably at least at least a thousand years old though? But he looks more like a young 25 y/o whose attire choices change day to day but generally always gives off that Parent vibe), Virgil was turned by Patton, Logan was born Vampire, Patton was assumably born vampire. Remus and Roman are 27, Janus is 25.

Virgil was locked away for about 150 years, give or take? He missed the entire shift in society and the human experience, from how relationships are viewed/treated to longer lifespans, to cleaner hygiene, convenience, and technology, hell, even the more open existance of the lgbtqa+ community! A /lot/ has happened in the past 100 years, and now Virgil has alot of catchup to do.(and don’t worry, Patton & Logan help Virgil catch up pretty quickly, they share flashcards and Virgil gets h o o k e d on social media when he gets a phone)

He absolutely does. Its a weird adjustment, what with the now wildly varied different textiles and styles and change. Especially the lack of layers, he misses those. (And finds immense comfort in the jacket that Janus gifts him, as its big and oversized and feels oh so very soft and warm.) But no yeah, he gets his hair cut(it still grew for those years locked away, albiet still rather slowly from malnutrition) and rocks the fringe, even gets his hair dyed purple to match his eyes, all the grunge/punk/emo aesthetic! Some of his favorite new things are makeup, piercings, and so much black fabric to chose from!

You’ll be surprised to note, that Roman is sadly not a himboTM in this au, as Virgil has already taken over that roll 💜💜💜

Remus and Roman’s relationship? Honestly ride or die chaos, the kinds of siblings that play pranks on one another and insult eachother but god forbid some poor outsider steps in to try and say the same thing they said abt their sibling, that outsider will have regreted it. The kind if ‘The Only one allowed to call my brother a Bitch-Ass Idiot is ME’ kind of siblings? Look they grew up in a area filled with people who dont like things out of the norm and befriended the local bullied kid who is half-covered in snake scales and speaks with a lisp due to his split togue. Remus himself suffers from intrusive anxiety and Roman suffers from chronic(?) depression. They’re all a bit ride or die, through and through.

Anxceit is the main pairing, and while it’s not entirely set in stone, Logince and Intruality are probably the other two.

Technically its not a secret in their world?? Like magic is a thing in their workd, its just usually left out of humanities bloodline. Humans like Janus are pretty rare bc of that. Vampires are still p rare to meet but not unheard of.

Yes, the vampires were alive for many major historical events. No we are not going to talk abt any of them. Same goes w/ historical figures.

Yes! Infact, Roman and Logan share college/uni theatre classes together! Logans currently an astronomy major, Roman a theatre arts major(i think thats what its called?) Logan is a formidible lyrical rival and Roman finds himself constantly losing to his rival in the form of slam poetry, though every day Roman always gets a little closer to winning(Logan adores the challenge, and the passion Roman has to beat Logan at his own game is riviting to experience. Logan would def consider Roman a perfect companion, but would have never acted on it if virgil hadnt been rescued by said companions twin brother, thus gettig both trios heavily involved w/ each other.) Patton’s been alive so long that he doesn’t care too much for academia, and instead focuses on tactile learning, like pottery and woodworking. Remus himself is an arts major, known for making really hyper horror or grotesque creature sculptures/doll customization, so he kind of just laches onto this man who seems to be larger than life and is far from bothered by Remus’s ‘not safe for common convos’ way of talking and its nice not to have someone run away. (Honestly, the feeling is mutual between the two)

As for what everone looks like, I kinda just want to leave that up to interpretation? If I end up drawing any of them they’ll probably be reflective of the way that I usually draw the sides, just human or vampire-ified, and maybe have a trait or two tweaked specifically for the au? The only real thing standing out to me is that i might give Remus or Roman Albinism? Idk yet.

Uhhhh i’m sure they have alot? Logan hates modern mirrors, bc they are usually not made w/ a silver backing. Let me tell you the first time Logna passed his full blown reflection out of something he’d never been able to use before, its clear, consise, ans ge hates it bc he can now very easily stare into his own eyes clearly and question existance.

Patton, despite being the oldest ever, is still v afraid of soiders despite knowing they cant hurt him too horribly.

Virgil is under the strong opinion that memes are hilarious and hoodies are amazing.

To Be Fair, It Was a Cute Spider

Part of the Four Human-Eating Monsters and An Apathetic Florist AU!

Summary: Virgil comes home late and tired to a tiny spider in the kitchen

Virgil was amazed he hadn’t crashed yet. As he drove down the dark road, all he could think of was the warmth of his bed at home and his soulmates around him.

His dad had arranged a family get-together; Virgil suspected it was his way of getting out of explaining Virgil's soulmate situation himself. His moms were definitely more than a little freaked out to find that their only son was perfectly fine with dating four cannibals.

After what had apparently been six hours of explaining and calming them down, he was allowed to go home. Which was good; he hadn’t been sleeping too well that week.

It was midnight by the time he got home. The house was dead silent, his boyfriends must have fallen asleep already. Good time to grab a snack and something to drink before heading to bed. He grabbed a glass of water and a granola bar, taking a bite before his eyes drifted down to the counter.

There was a small spider, possibly even a baby, traversing the countertop. “Aw, well aren’t you cute.” The spider paid no mind to his words, continuing to crawl around, not seeming to know where it was or what it was doing. Virgil giggled, somewhat out of it as he slowly put his finger down next to it in an attempt to get it to crawl on. “You’re such a cute little guy, huh?”

Logan woke up slowly, a familiar scent hitting his nose. He lied there for a moment, trying to put a face to the scent. A smile crossed his lips as it clicked in place, and he slowly shook Patton awake. Well, he hadn’t quite been asleep in the first place, more so in a state between awake and asleep. Patton hummed, squinting at Logan through the darkness.

“Virgil’s back.” Patton grinned happily, waking Janus and Roman up carefully. Once awake, they all made their way down to the kitchen, where Virgil’s scent was the strongest, and peered in.

There was their human boyfriend, eating granola at half past midnight, cooing at a tiny spider on the counter, and praising it like it were his own son in a slightly slurred, sleep-deprived voice. This was one of the men that had captured their hearts.

Logan let out an amused sigh, stepping into the kitchen and putting his hands on Virgil’s shoulders. “Come on sweetheart,” he said as he attempted to guide him away, “it’s time for bed.”

“Can we get rid of the spider first?” Patton asked nervously.

“It’s not going to hurt you, Patton. Now come on, let’s get some sleep.” Janus yawned, his jaw unhinging as he did so.

“I’d feel a bit better if it were outside. I’m...still kinda only used to two spideys.” He smiled at Roman, who by now had tuned everything out in an attempt to sleep while standing. Virgil was clearly upset by Patton’s words however.

“What’s wrong with this little guy staying? They’re not hurting anyone!”

“I know Vee, I know. It’s an irrational fear, I get it. But still...”

“They’re my lil’ baby now. They’re staying.” Virgil yawned, watching the tiny spider with an almost drunken happiness.

“It would probably be better if it were outside, Virgil.” Logan stated.

“No.”

“Virgil, please?” Janus and Roman watched Virgil and Patton argue back and forth with tired eyes.

“Should we stop them?” Roman mumbled out.

“Little arguments such as this are perfectly normal in a relationship, Roman. However I have to say, this is by far the dumbest argument they have ever had.”

“Dumber than that argument about wrapping children up in web?”

“Virgil was completely in the right with that one, it did look like you were trying to kill that child.”

“It’s a spider thing.”

“And it was a human child.” Logan was quickly growing annoyed with the arguing. He  grabbed a cup from the cabinet and placed it over the tiny spider.

“Hey!” Virgil complained.

“We can keep it under this cup until tomorrow. We’ll deal with it then. How does that sound?” He knew this was really only happening because Virgil was tired. Any other time he would’ve taken it outside to make Patton feel better. The two agreed nonetheless, and they went off to bed

Virgil awoke the next morning after everyone but Patton, heading down to the kitchen to see what was going on with the spider. But when he looked, he saw that the cup was back in the cabinet, and the spider wasn’t anywhere on the counter. He turned to Janus, who was humming as he poured a cup of tea.

“What happened to it?”

“What happened to what?” He gestured vaguely at the spider-less counter. “Ah, the spider. I was the first to wake up this morning, so I just decided to let it out and save the trouble. I hope you don’t mind.”

“Oh. Yeah, I guess I’m fine with it. Patton did seem kinda freaked out last night.” Janus nodded in agreement, taking a long sip of his drink.

He didn’t want to say that the spider had escaped and he had found the cup empty when he woke up. If Patton found out he would be paranoid for the next week. Some things were better to lie about.

In every Monster Sides AU Patton’s always either a softie human, or an incredibly friendly vampire or a werewolf that for some reason acts like a puppy. In other words he’s not really that much of a “monster”.

“There you are.” Virgil looked annoyed, in the middle of a game of finger football with Thomas. The two were flicking a folded-up napkin back and forth across the counter. Still no other customers in sight, although Logan noted that could also be due to the fact his brother had ‘helpfully’ turned the sign from Open to Closed, likely in an attempt to avoid dealing with actual people.

“They are vampires.” Logan explained, flipping the sign and walking back towards his post.

“Wait…like actual vampires?” Thomas looked nervous. “I thought that was just a theme.”

“It’s a cover.” Logan began to tie his apron. “Don’t look so nervous, Thomas.”

“I’m just a big fan of keeping my blood inside my body.” Thomas gulped.

“Invest in a garlic necklace and you should be fine.” Logan shrugged.

“Wait, so how’d you figure it out?” Virgil leaned forwards, suddenly very eager to hear what his brother had to say. “Did you see jars of blood? Did they bite someone right in front of you?”

“Patton told me.” Logan answered, pulling out the dough he had abandoned before. Virgil and Thomas shared a look, both knowing how unhelpful Logan could be with giving information.

“And Patton is…?” Virgil waved him on to continue.

“A…friend.” Logan paused for just a moment too long. “As well as the owner’s son.”

Virgil’s eyes widened, recognizing Logan’s mannerisms. “Oh my god. You’re dating the competition.”

“I am not-“

“Then what’s that slip of paper in your pocket?” Virgil squinted.

Logan was quiet a moment. “…his phone number.”

Virgil let out a groan. “Seriously, the one guy you finally fall for and it’s our rival’s vampire son? What the hell, Logan?”

“He seems to act contrary to the stereotypes.” Logan insisted. “I am approaching this with a scientific curiosity only.”

“Yeah yeah, whatever you say.” Virgil rolled his eyes. “Keep telling yourself that when you come home with a bunch of love bites.”

Virgil seriously couldn’t believe it. The longer things went on, the more Logan’s secret relationship became a pain in his neck, pun intended. Logan would duck out of the evening shifts early, likely sneaking off to somewhere cool like a graveyard or something to hang out with his weirdly preppy boyfriend. Weren’t vampires supposed to be goth? Virgil hadn’t met the guy, but just staring out his bedroom window Virgil was surprised to see so many colors. It seemed counter-intuitive to the whole bloodsucking monster thing.

There was another problem with Logan’s relationship. Virgil had to repeatedly lie about knowing anything to their parents, and he had to cover more and more as Logan began to get more reckless with his secrecy. It was driving Virgil insane, and definitely affecting his already lousy magic studies more than ever.

“So why don’t you just tell your parents?” Thomas suggested, listening to Virgil moan on and on over the phone. 

“I can’t, Thomas.” Virgil insisted, laying his head over the edge of the bed so that the cool night breeze wafted through his hair, courtesy of the open window. “He’s…. he’s actually happy for once, you know? I’ve never seen Logan so much as take a second look at a boy, but he talks about Patton like he’s the center of his universe or something.” Virgil made a gagging noise. “It’s disgusting.”

“Mhmm.” Thomas made an unimpressed noise.

“...what?” Virgil raised a judgmental eyebrow, hoping it came across in his tone since Thomas couldn’t see him.

“I’ve seen the way you were hitting up the exchange student in art class.” Thomas teased. “The hot British one?”

Immediately Virgil turned a bright shade of red. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He lied. 

“Oh really?” Thomas showed no signs of stopping. “Is that why you two were exchanging notes all class?”

“I- that was just flirting!” A flustered Virgil argued. 

“Virgil Baker has never flirted in his life.” Thomas’ statement made Virgil snort in resigned agreement. Human socialization had never been his strong suit. “You’re head over heels for this boy. And you’re only talking to me right now because you don’t have his number yet.”

“That’s not true.” Virgil argued. “You’re my best friend, I wouldn’t choose you over a guy.”

“And how do you know you won’t go as gaga in love as your brother?” Thomas argued right back, though he didn’t sound very annoyed, instead endearingly exasperated. 

“Because I’m talking to you right now.” Virgil fiddled with his sleeve, biting his lip. “...and I already have his number.”

“You do not.” Thomas gasped. “Virgil! Why didn’t you tell me? Wait hang up- call him! Have his children!” 

“That’s not how any of this works.” Virgil chuckled.

Virgil’s smile faded, attitude turning melancholy as he thought back to Roman’s evening radio silence.  “Besides, I can’t. He said he was too busy tonight.” He glanced out the window, staring up at the stars. It was then that Virgil’s attention was diverted from his singleness to a dash of movement outside his window. A little shape flitted across the glow of the full moon, a small shadow in the darkness of night. Actually… the longer Virgil looked, the shadow seemed to be getting...closer?

Virgil had only just enough time to recognize the shape was a bat before it was swooping into his bedroom and transforming into a fully grown vampire. Virgil yelped, startled into falling completely off his bed and dropping the phone.

“My fangs! Look, they grew in!” The vampire loomed over Virgil, proudly showing off his razorous fangs what felt like inches from Virgil’s face. Virgil gulped, turning as pale as the stranger in fright. The vampire seemed to realize his error, giving an awkward chuckle and backing up so that Virgil could breathe again and see the figure’s face.

“Oopsies, wrong window.” The vamp gave an awkward chuckle, rubbing the back of his neck. Virgil looked him over, taking in the way the man was dressed in khakis and a polo. Not exactly intimidating. Definitely preppy, more like a puppy than a predator. 

“...I’m hoping you’re Patton?” Virgil said warily.

“The one and only!” Patton stuck out his hand, but Virgil didn’t bother to shake it. Instead he continued to look Patton over, full on judging his brother’s boyfriend. Even past the fangs, Virgil had to wonder- what did Logan see in this guy? It was hard to imagine Patton as any more than a flower child, and that just didn’t fit his older brother’s serious demeanor in the slightest. 

“Are you going to kill me?” Virgil asked, though he sounded far too casual about the question. 

“What? No!” Patton quickly shook his head. “No no no, I would never. I’m not that sort of vampire.”

Virgil gave an understanding nod. “Tonight was no good for me anyways.”

Patton cleared his throat, looking a bit uncomfortable as he slowly lowered his hand back down. “...You must be Virgil. It’s a pleasure to meet you, kiddo.”

Virgil frowned, not liking the demeaning nickname even if Patton could be hundreds of years old, if not older. “Logan’s door is first on your left.” Virgil jabbed his thumb towards his bedroom door, eager to get the vamp out of his hair so he could continue to bitch about said vamp over the phone. 

“Oh, okay.” Patton gave Virgil an encouraging smile, heading to the door. “Well, see you around then, kiddo!”

Virgil rolled his eyes, picking up the phone again. He wondered how much Thomas had overheard. “You’ll be interested to know I’m not dead.”

“Yeah, ah, what was that??” A nervous Thomas asked, clearly worried for his safety.

“Just got a heart attack.” Virgil shrugged. “Also finally met Patton. Dude crashed through the window.”

“Aren’t you about a billion floors up?” Thomas sounded skeptical.

“Give or take. But he’s a magic bat, Thomas.” Virgil reminded him. Honestly, he really couldn’t see how Logan put up with all of that- Roman might be energetic, but at least he was normal.

What does Dee find out later?? Why did pat leave Lo to die?? -Kas

It takes a while for Dee to find out, but eventually after asking around and talking to some more neutral sided vampires he’s able to find out that some vampires, when turned, can gain some powers if their sire is really REALLY powerful. Patton is powerful, but getting the powers is like a fifty-fifty chance thing. And Patton assumed, that Logan wouldn’t have any powers after he turned him.

And since his entire vampire clan is made up of vampires who have powers he didn’t have a use for him and left him to die after knocking him out. In his own way, it would have been a mercy kill with Logan being unconscious. 

He was very wrong.

Patton and Virgil hanging out at school, talking by the lockers. Patton is wearing his favorite skirt and hair pins, adorable as ever. Virgil's makeup is dark and sharp as hell, and his clothes are too. Literally looks like he would kill you.

Some jerk yells, "Hey, look! A vampire and a fairy!"

Patton turns to the a-hole, fangs bared in a sweet smile, eyes blood red. "He's human, actually."

Virgil facepalms, because wtf, Pat; you blew your cover, again.
