Women besting men in any way in TVC - non-exhaustive book quote compilation
(AMC show is not part of the conversation)
Does Lestat take notes on actors playing him in adaptation and inspired works to experiment with others in real life? For example, Tom's artful kicking of the coffin box, Somerhalder's (Damon Salvatore) artful neck-breaking, and Pattinson's MTV award-winning fighting style.
This is a tough one! I waited a long time and I still don't have an elegant answer.
I think, overall, Yes, Lestat enjoys vampire media and is inspired to try certain things he sees fictional vampires doing. I'm a picky eater about my vampire media, so I don't have enough of a database to get specific*. I really enjoyed 30 Days of Night (Josh Hartnett's character infecting himself with vampirism to gain the powers to defend his human companions?? And then choosing to die in the sunrise in the arms of his ex?? Yes??) and I'm sure Lestat would think of the 30DoN vampires as more like sharks than vampires, not creatures he would want to emulate, but I think he'd love the authenticity of Only Lovers Left Alive, and Let the Right One In. I could see him holding back tears watching those two films, relating too much, thinking about Claudia and Nicki š
[^XĀ byĀ @horroredits] I bet Lestat thoroughly enjoys vampires that share some of his qualities like Colin Farrell as Jerry Dandridge in Fright Night (2011). Even if they get killed in the movie š
When it comes to vampires playing Lestat specifically, I'd think he feeds on the attention as it makes him feel relevant he's deeply flattered by having anyone portray him at all - all the way down to the cosplayers at the NOLA ball and online! There was definitely fic about Lestat being drawn to actors who have played him. But on the surface, he critiques all of them as inadequate because ultimately, there's only One True Vampire Lestat š

Bonus:
Anne Rice had posted her thoughts on this from time to time, here's one I found quickly, about Lestat's feelings about vampires in media who feed messily:

Summary:
Armand and Nicki discuss art (and art theft), before Nicki paints Armand for the first time in centuries.
Notes:
Written for the VC secret gift exchange! I got vampire-scripture on tumblr, and their prompt āArmand and Nicki and artā. This was such a fun fic to write, thank you so much for the excuse to write more of these two!
The title is taken from the poem Standing Female Nude by Carol Ann Duffy.
The fic itself is set some time nebulously 4-5ish years into their decade running the theatre, and for anyone who wants the playlist that accompanies this fic, then thatās on youtube and spotify.

Bloodlust - aeseaes if I have one Nickimand song and no others, itās this one! Itās this one in a way thatās almost unsettlingly perfect. From the first verseās appeal to the painted figure at the foot of the stage (because A: literal stage, and B: Lestat looms so large over both of them), to the final line being ācut off my hands and watch me try to undressā. How many ships can say thereās literal hand cutting off? I wouldnāt call it a happyĀ song, but I would call it very them. All the Rowboats - Regina Spector This one, I feel like, is the fascinating combination of art and the violin references, which are a repeated motif, perhaps unsurprisingly given Nickiās character, but also of the half-mortality. Thereās the āliving deadā line, the āforever, forever and a dayā. That whole verse where it talks about museums feels like it works exceptionally well for the theatre, because in a lot of ways, they theatre is what became of the children of darkness, taken from a graveyard. Itās no less a tomb. Art and a subpar immortality: it sounds familiar. Valentine - Fiona Apple This one might, in truth, be making them a little too soft, but once again, I think it captures the sense of stagnation that characterizes a lot of the vampires. Theyāre talented, theyāre beautiful, but theyāre not aliveĀ anymore. And for these two in specific, the āfugitive too dull to fleeā feels⦠fitting. Neither Armand or Nicki leave the theatre, even if they could. And itās even canon that they did learn to care for each other, in some way,
Thank you for submitting your gift, @vampire-scripture!

š Bee: What is a video game that you find comforting? This is going to be insanely funny to the ones who know, but... Grand Theft Auto š¤£š¤£š¤£ Listen, I grew up playing this game in the only way a weirdo could: by driving around and actually stopping when lights turned red and listening to the insane car radio and just doing absolutely nothing. So yes, it is comforting to me. Also, the Sims because I love to create the houses/spaces and then tear them down and do it again š¤£
Thank you so much for the ask š
