Surprise!
It's not what you thought
As it runs...
It runs a dead stop light
As it runs...
It runs a dead light
You're the fool
And we won't look back
Let's tie those ankles... to the... railroad
Don't stop to catch your breath
I bet your foresight... never... saw this...
Train wreck is right on time
A fucking punk
A fucking punk rock
You fucking punk
You fucking punk
You prostitute
You fucking punk
You fucking punk rock
You fucking punk... prostitute
Pick the open vein to shreds
You should know that you're my... death... wish...
Bible-thumping, steeple fuck
You are the worst of all scum
Train wreck... right-on-time
You're my death wish
Yeah...
We were young and
We were god
Far away... from us now
We don't want it
What you've got
We don't want it
We don't want it
We don't want it
We don't want it
And you've got it
She took my hand
She took my hand
But I never took hers

Van Damsel is a guitar-driven indie-rock act with a modern edge, combining an upbeat, danceable, and hard-hitting sound with ambient, emotional textures and highly relatable lyrics.
LOCAL BAND / MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR SPOTLIGHT: VAN DAMSEL
As we wind down features for our 2015 “Local Band / Musician of the Year,” we wanted to take the opportunity to thank you all for reading our website, and for taking the time to vote! Today’s spotlight is on Kamloops indie rock heartthrobs, Van Damsel. Read on to see why we thought the band deserved a nod – and then vote, of course.
A short visit to Van Damsel’s Facebook page will affirm just how active they’ve been this year. Following an 8-month gap between live gigs, they bounded back in March and ended up going on two cross-Canada tours. The four-piece was also a finalist in the 2015 (and final!) PEAK Performance Project BC – and, in their second bid in three years, they proved to improve massively. I had the opportunity to catch Van Damsel at their #PPP showcase set and was blown away by their passion, energy, and ability to carry rock into the modern age whilst solidifying a sound of their own. They finished in 3rd place, with a hefty $50,000 reward.
But Van Damsel is more than just their explosive melodies and magnetizing presence. Over the course of their fall tour they partnered with the David Suzuki Foundation to promote environment awareness – taking a moment during each set to encourage concert goers to consider their impact. 100% of the proceeds from a custom Van Damsel tote bag went to the foundation, along with 10% of their merch sales.
2015 saw the group release the first two singles, “Best of Everything” and “Sophia,” off their forthcoming debut album slated for an early 2016 release. Bouncing guitars and smooth vocal lines dominate their playful anthems; I’m excited for more of what they’ve been up to (writing and recording the album was also the reason behind aforementioned 8-month gap).
If listening to Van Damsel makes you feel good, a vote for Van Damsel should make you feel good, too.
Has Van Damsel accomplished enough to take the title of our 2015 “Local Band / Musician of the Year?” Have a gander over to our poll and check off their name here! Voting is open until December 29th, 2015 at 11:59pm, and you can vote once every 24 hours.
