CONCERT ALERT: THE 2015 PEAK PERFORMANCE PROJECT BC FINALE
The PEAK Performance Project is a seven-year initiative organized by radio station 102.7 The PEAK, and funded by the Jim Pattison group. Its purpose is to enrich and change the lives and art of musicians from all across British Columbia. Sadly, 2015 is the final year in which the project is running.
This year’s program originally consisted of twelve artists: each received a $5,000 grant for their music before completing various initiatives. This included live shows, online voting, and a seven-day intensive music boot camp in Princeton, B.C. On October 29th, the three finalists were revealed: solo alt-pop singer Bed of Stars, Victoria pop-rock songwriter JP Maurice, and Kamloops indie rockers Van Damsel.
The three finalists will be performing at the Commodore Ballroom this Thursday, November 19th. The rankings of the finalists will also be announced, each artist receiving a cash sum to further develop and advance their musical careers. The first place prize is $102,700, with second and third place receiving $75,000 and $50,000. Previous winners include We Are The City, Kyprios, Current Swell, Dear Rouge, Rykka, and Good For Grapes.
Tickets for the event are $15 plus service charges and are available here. The PEAK Performance Project has enriched and improved the craft of more than 100 artists across BC since 2009, and now offers an almost-identical project based out of Alberta. Its legacy and influence will be remembered across the BC music scene for years to come.
Much like 2014, the BC and Alberta artists convened at boot camp to collaborate on some original songs, which can be streamed below. This year’s theme was “Hello, Goodbye,” and features a number of colourful and heartfelt interpretations on the subject.
