something i think about pretty much constantly is the collider forces interview with liv hewson where they talk about jenna burgess saying "my melissa would never do that to your van" regarding what happens in the adult timeline

this and it doing WONDERS for melissa's self-image.

mel's really special to me because, even if she dresses boyish, we see her wearing skirts in season 2 and she's VERY emotional, like the perfect mix of teen boy/teen girl gender expression. i think van could and WOULD help mel express what feels right. like calling her pretty in a skirt and calling her handsome in a button-up.

similarly, i think mel would help van emotionally – reassuring her that the taivan break up was a TAI thing and she doesn't have to change in the slightest.
