“Vash. Why is your leg bent like that?”  Wolfwood asked, the words coming slow and careful like he was talking to a child. His tone made Vash’s eyes sting. He blinked harder, even though he wasn’t looking up at Wolfwood’s sun-haloed face anymore. “Like what? I’m totally fine,” He tried to laugh, but all attempts at levity were lost with the way his voice tore its way out of his throat. The gravely sound echoed in his ears, sounding even to himself like the laugh of someone teetering on the edge of madness. “Fuck. Let me see.” “No.” The word was out of his mouth before he even registered that Wolfwood was done speaking. “No. Leave it.”

Summary:

It was Vash's birthday, and he couldn't think of a better occasion to get absolutely roaring, falling-down, sloppy drunk. The party started early, when most of the other townsfolk were still sleeping or having breakfast. The bar was nearly empty when he walked in, with only a couple of tables taken up by last night's drunks. How lucky that they'd stopped in a town with a bar that never closed. Or - Vash goes on a bender on his birthday to escape the memory of July. It goes about as well as you would expect.
