Experienced vultures! I need your help!
So I tried cleaning this c.at skull that was sitting In a bucket for a month with the rest of the bones. The other bones weren't ready yet but since the skull was pretty much clean before I started, I figured I could get to the degreasing of the skull.
Now what's weird is that theres a bunch of block dots in the skull, and I'm having a hard time cleaning the small hard to reach areas? Could someone help me diagnose what these small black dots are, if its just dirt or maybe a degenerative disorder? And how to you clean your tiny skulls? Anything will help! Thank you!
hey vc community! im checking out a seller on etsy who is selling a deformed cockatiel skull from within the us (in my case, i would also be buying from within the us), and i looked on the list of birds covered by the MBTA here and found no mention of cockatiels, but i just wanna be sure it would not be a violation of MBTA to purchase it? what do you guys think? this individual died of natural causes and was obtained by the seller from a local breeder btw
yo anyone else have issues with small animals skulls breaking off at the end where the brain cavity is while macerating? ive had this happen to a mouse, rat and hamster now and idk how it happened since im not rough with them, i just know theyre fragile
VC question
any vultures have preserved white tail deer ears?? its not an emergency but Id love if i could see some pics, trying to decide if i wanna preserve mine, also, anyone run into any problems with drying the ears??
Alright, so I bought myself a C.aracal skull. Only... I’m not actually sure it is a c.aracal... the shape and the extra premolar would actually suggest it might be another species. I got it from a taxidermist/shop who get their animals from zoos (I have proof of this, so it is legal to own) so you wouldn’t say they would misidentify anything but they have in the past. As you can see, it isn’t fully cleaned and it even has some fur on it, which is brown-grey in color like a c.aracal. But I have compared it to a lot of c.aracal skull pictures and the shape is just very different. The tiny tooth behind the canine is usually absent in this species, though it should be noted that they are sometimes present. Do you guys think it’s just a weird c.aracal or is it a different species? S.erval is possible but they have a very different fur color, same thing for O.celot.
the length of this skull is 11,8 cm, and 8,5 cm wide.
Need pictures of big cat/cat skulls!
I do educational lectures at my college in the Vulture Culture club I run about animal anatomy! I currenlty own a bobcat skull, but do not have a domestic feline, nor any big cat skull. For some reason it's not easy getting good pictures of big cat skulls and I could really use them! My question/plea would be if any of you out there have pictures of your cat, bobcat, mountain lion, leopard, lion skulls etc. if you could send them my way? I would appreciate it immensely and it would help me in so many ways! Even if you know of other sources to get this information and pictures I'd love you for it! I'd also really appreciate anything articulated related to this as well, or any pictures/details of preserved paws, mummified heads, pelt details etc.!
Guys, when I'm trying to tan pelts bugs keep laying their eggs in them, any way I can stop that? It's getting frustrating spending 2 hours for a pelt the size of a Squirrel lice combing them all out. Is this a normal problem or just me?
