I need fic writers to step the FUCK UP for Veep after tonight. I’m gonna need a Dan and Amy ending STAT. And while you’re at it, give Gary a real fucking ending. I didn’t watch seven seasons for this!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having listened to the Anna Chlumsky interview and if I’m interpreting it correctly, if the post abortion hotel room scene was the last scene of Amy and Dan in their storyline, then the scenes they had later have to be about something else. Which leads me to think, 1) they don’t reconnect at Selina’s funeral and 2) the scene at Jonah’s father’s funeral was more about Amy trying to ignore supporting terrible causes while promoting a candidate is destructive than her unending attraction to Dan.

Dear Anon - thanks for sending in your observations :-) I love reading what other people think. It is interesting, if a bit depressing, to think about the purpose of their scenes after 7.03. From the way the funeral scene is written, I agree it’s pretty clear that Dan and Amy don’t connect the way Amy was hoping, at the very least. And I suppose it is quite possible that Amy has begun to internally wrestle with the reality of Jonah as the president, as his campaign sinks lower and rises higher in the polls…it would certainly contextualize her sudden switch in 7.07, although I don’t think there is a scripted indication that she’s having second thoughts at this point. (disclaimer: I have not rewatched the full episode, and I also watched most of season seven in a weird black-out haze of emotional hysteria and denial.) 

And I like the idea that there’s something else going in the scene besides Amy once again trying with Dan and getting slapped in the face for it. David Mandel has been pretty clear in interviews that he has always seen the concept of Amy never really getting over Dan to be very funny, and in his view, that’s what their funeral scene is about. He also said (somewhere, maybe the THR interview, although I’m not inclined to go look it up) that the whole Dan-dates-Amy’s-abortionist joke was always on the table as they worked out the season. Why he found that joke so hilarious and precious that he set it up over two entire episodes, I could not say.

If I’m being very dark and cynical about Dan and Amy circa season 7, I think 7.06 is David Mandel twisting the knife a bit re: their relationship and what it has become…just emphatically reminding the audience in no uncertain terms that Dan doesn’t give a shit about Amy and that Amy will always be hoping for something more from him. 

But at the same time, that’s just a strictly Mandelian interpretation of the episode and if you’ve seen my other posts on here, you know that I think the flash-forward scene in 7.07 undercuts a lot of what he was trying to do. And at the end of the day…most Dan and Amy scenes from the back half of season five through season seven are so sparing and underwritten that there is a lot of room for interpretation on the part of the viewer! Interpret away! Create your own back-story!

Five Scene Fix It Challenge - Veep Season 7

Veep should be inciting laughs of glee within us, not break our hearts by destroying beloved characters. Lately, some of us may not be feeling the laughs and the gags on the show. Lately, you may find yourself not looking forward to Sundays. Lately, you may cringe in horror and your stomach may convulse when a certain character comes on the screen. As we edge closer to the series finale, we may have a few things that you want to change up, which is why I propose a Fix It Challenge.

What Is A Fix It Challenge?

Did you hate a certain scene this season? Were you disgusted by one of your favorite characters? Are you having massive heartaches because someone was a shit or was treated wrongly? If you, like me, were effected by this season, then I encourage you to write out all of the feelings you may have about it. Instead of feeling negative about it, take the time to really embrace the four good seasons we did have with these lovely characters and try to put your own spin on these scenes that desperately need a re-write. While we've dealt with some curve balls, we also had some really sweet and funny scenes throughout the series. If you have a scenario you really wanted to see, then write it out yourself and share it with the rest of the fandom because I can guarantee we all need a good read, especially after the Series ends! Now is your chance!

4) You need to get it in by the required date - Due in by June 8th, 2019.

I know it's a horrible thing to say but I really loved the Dan-Amy pregnancy..like taking the classic 'will-they-won't-they' but making it 'will-they-won't-they' about an abortion (laughs). It's insane..when are you ever going to do that?

(laughs) We've gotten so close as a cast....that Julia is really...you know, she's our Quarterback and sorta our fearless leader first and foremost. But she's also kinda become like a Big Sister type to some of us and a bit of a Mom type to some us in some ways so, to sorta crawl in bed with this woman whose your Boss and your Co-Star and your buddy, you know? She's all of these things (laughs).
