Why I’m going vegan..
I’ve been wanting be vegan for a long time now. The main reason I wanted to make that dietary change was because of the health benefits, I never gave thought about animal cruelty until I started to get deep into my vegan research. I know that makes me sound like an ignorant and possibly bad person, however I was ignorant. I never once sat there as I ate a meal wondering how It got there, wondering how cruel we are with animals. I started being vegan earlier this year but I did not stick to it. I do eat less meats and dairy products but I have not cut them out of my diet completely, well that is until today. Today is my first day back and I’m going to challenge myself to be vegan and turn it into a lifestyle, because thats really the life I want for myself. I will keep updating on my journey!
Veganism
I have been vegan for almost 5 years and all I see on social media and in other domains is the ease and happiness associated with veganism. For me, it's daunting to see such perfection and likely intimidating for other prospective vegans. Here's the truth!
It’s Beautiful AND It’s Difficult
I have been identifying as a vegan for almost five years now. When I say identifying I qualify that by saying I do not eat vegan on my birthday and if I am at a location where eating vegan is not possible, I will still eat. As someone that studies eating disorders and maladaptive eating and weight control behaviors, the last thing I want to do is condone…

Second day on my vegan journey & my head is killing me , but it’s not gunna stop me!
So I’m declaring September 1 (today) as my first official day being vegan. I’m going to try to go a month cause I’ve heard from many people that after a month it feels like the most natural thing in the world and you cant imagine going back. If I don’t feel that way I’ll treat myself to a bag of smartpop white cheddar popcorn as my reward for getting through a month. But then I’ll get back up and try again. But if I don’t feel that way (hopefully), my reward will be being a certified vegan!
Today so far has been fine. I had a veggie black bean burger, the hummus veg out sandwich at einsteins, some vegan toast and vegan butter with watermelon, lots of coffee, cinnamon flavor, and some red plums. Very flavorful. And also, I’ve already eaten 50 grams of protein today and lots of fiber. I also feel really full which is great.
However I’m low in calcium and iron for my foods today. I’m probably going to have a salad at the restaurant I’m going to because it’s mainly a seafood restaurant so not many options there, and anyways I’m really full. Nuts and leafy greens are easily good sources of iron and calcium, and if I add orange juice or fruit to my salad, that is vitamin c and will help my body absorb iron. A glass of wine also doesn’t hurt. But I’m not going to go too in depth yet like “is your wine vegan”. And then I'll come home to my sweet potato fries. And I’m not going to include accidental mistakes in this month. I only fail if I give into my cheese cravings. That shouldn’t be hard though because I suffer from lactose intolerance so it’s not worth eating the cheese, plus I know how to make vegan cheese now.
I feel really good about all of this and I love my food choices finally meeting up with my values
I'm genuinely excited about a salad I'm about to eat
Just felt like I needed to document this occasion
Made a vegan "pulled pork" sandwich the other day and it wasn’t too bad!
