S I M P L Y T H E B E S T New Year Lunch at KK Malaysia is all vegetation. Aunty KK has made her inimitable Vegetarian Laksa, all the ingredients are plant-based right down to the stock. The noodles are a mix of beehoon and egg, there’s okra, eggplant, bean sprout, vegetarian ”fish” balls and taupok, topped with grated cucumber and a boiled egg. In keeping with her Buddhist beliefs, no black vegetables (garlic & onion) are used. Aunty KK’s Vegetarian Laksa is Uncle’s most favourite laksa, ever. Sedap! In keeping with the vegetarian lunch, spring rolls are served. The filling is delicately shredded cabbage, julienne of carrot, shitake mushroom and chopped coriander stalks. There's no garlic and onion and the flavours are all extracted from the constant stir-frying of all the ingredients, with a measured liberal sprinkling of pepper. Deep-fried in good fresh oil, these golden-skinned wraps of goodness is the best spring rolls you'll ever crunch on. Dip in a fresh chilli sauce. Aunty shared her chocolate coffee layered cake.
