Pumpkin Vs Corn - the race is on!

I’ve given the pumpkins a head start so they have a chance of developing enough to trail away from the bed and into the sun before the corn plants grow tall and shade everything out.

The punkies better get a grow on though, those corn shoots were seeds in a packet only 11 days ago.

MY NEWEST VEGIE BED!

- Kiddie Pool: found on the side of the curb = FREE

- Home Made Compost (75% of fill) = FREE

- Straw: Bale from a construction site barrier given to me by the workers when they were finished = FREE

- Rest of fill (25%) was purchased.

My sweet potato slips will be going in here shortly. Note: pool has had holes drilled in it 3 inches from the bottom.

75% cost free set up = my kind of organic gardening!

My pumpkins are rambling (aka invading) their way through the tomato patch.

They are gripping their tendrils around the tomato plants as they go. I'm actually liking this as it will provide extra support for the tomatoes.

Well after a few horrible weeks of endless rain, it seems spring has sprung here in Sydney!
